on 1/11/12 my 8mo daughter charlotte got her first riser cast. she was diagnosed

in nov 2011 with infantile scoliosis, we visited childrens mercy in kansas city

early dec 2011 and the decision was made that she needed to be casted to correct

her scoliosis.

when we went to the docs in november, she was off about 12 degrees. the december

appointment showed her to be off by about 23 degrees. when she was casted in

january, she was almost 30 degrees off. the docs got her down to about 17

degrees. they didn't want to manipulate her spine to much in one shot.

charlottes scoliosis is a curve to the right and we were told it would not

correct itself. she will be in a cast for about 6 weeks at a time until she is

about 2 years old. the hope is that she will grow straight while in the cast and

we won't need surgeries or metal rods later on.

her cast fits like a tank top. we've had to go down a size in diapers and up to

18mos outfits. onesies don't fit and are constantly shifting, so we keep her in

footie jammies.

Welcome to CAST! Early Treatment w/ Mehta’s specialized EDF (elongation, derogation, flexion) casting for infants & young children with progressive infantile scoliosis is supposed to be a gentle process, so it sounds like lil Charlotte is right on track.
