Extreme heat/humidity and sweating under the cast?

Hi,

This is the first week of really bad heat and humidity for us. Heat index has

been over 100 degrees this week. The humidity is adding 10-15 degrees to the

actual temp.

I have been checking Avery where I can since reading a couple of posts about

sores.

I haven't noticed anything except for redness in a few spots, but not bad.

Today, I noticed that not only is she very sweaty underneath the cast, but she

has a small open sore about the size of a pencil eraser or a little smaller. It

really looks like a scrape to me, but it wasn't there last week.

I had some mepilex pads from our last visit and was able to put it on her sore,

it should help and she can't get to this one to pull it off.

If it gets any worse I am going to call the Dr.

Is there anything that I can do to keep her from sweating underneath her cast? I

keep my central air on 71 degrees and dress her lightly.

We don't go outside very much. We were out last Friday for a couple of hours,

but I had a battery operated fan on her and her cooling vest.

Also, since she has been sweating her armpits smell like a sweaty man. I wash

them, but it must be soaked into her cast.

Is there anything that I can do to help her sweating under her cast?

Or about the smell under her armpits?

She doesn't have a shirt underneath, but if she gets a 3rd cast in August, she

will get one.

Thanks so much,

Randi
