Cast #2 Update and Tips

We are almost to the end of Cast # 2 and we've had an incredible experience this time around! Kylie ended up with a TEN week break between cast 1 and 2. It was not planned that way, it was supposed to be a 24 hour break and our Dr. ended up with a trauma, she got moved and in the meantime we decided we did not want to proceed without a Knit Rite Shirt. So we put some time into finding/getting the shirt and then enjoyed the rest of the summer cast free. Leading up to the second cast, Kylie began to ask for her cast! (She's 2 1/2 now). I was amazed! The first casting she accepted going in, but when I went to the hospital for her follow up visit after one week, she freaked out. That led me to believe that she would have the same reaction for cast number 2, but that totally was not the case! (Sure made my life easier with her being calm and brave!). Her recovery between cast 1 and 2 was NIGHT and DAY! With cast one, her procedure was done by 10 a.m. but she was in recovery for several hours and by 7 pm she was still very weepy, and upset. With cast #2 she was ready to WALK out of the recovery room (she was wobbly on her feet and we didn't let her ... but she TRIED!) less than 2 hours after the completion of surgery. As soon as the nurse told her if she ate and drank she could go home to see her siblings, she lit right up and chowed down. It certainly was a great example of mind over matter!Some of the things that we have found helpful this round, is the Knit Rite shirt. (This thing is a lifesaver on so many levels.) We remove it and wash it at least once a week. And watching the video gave us some tips to make it easier. It now takes less than five minutes to get off and five minutes to get on. (My only question with this, is I am seeing a lot of wear at the seams on the shoulder... does anyone else have this?)We also were given a cast cooler. This thing is INCREDIBLE. Such relief for Kylie. She says "bye bye itchies!" I haven't seen it mentioned on the list so thought I would put it out there, here is the website.
