Guest guest
OKAY. Today went fine with 's first day of school in the room set aside for one on one therapy...not fabulous but fine. I do all of my son's DTT but want to do VBT when he is at school. So I started with pairing myself with things in the room he will be getting therapy. A lot of time lapsed (we were only scheduled to be there an hour),where he took the toys and played with them....I would try and play with toys I knew he liked but he would tell me to leave them alone...so I followed him around and talked with him. As he approached the table a couple times, I would try a NVI he has mastered long by now. He was NC. I gave him the reinforcement anyway, (automatic reinforcement). Eventually I did get his attention and I got him to complete a cut/glue project and helped him write his name (which he spelled for me...he echoed when we wrote the date back). At first he didn't want to do the project but he ended up sitting on my lap and that is how he started by which I slowly moved his chair over and he sat in it without struggle. I figured that is what was reinforcing enough to keep him at the table so I allowed it to happen and we slowly transitioned to the chair. So someone please critique me!!! Also, Dr. Carbone mentioned at his workshop when I asked how is echoic different from echolalia. He said echolalia is too much echoing which can be a problem. My son has a nice language repertoire but he does have a tendency to echo too many things. How can I eliminate this? Thanks all, Rose
