Guest guest
After our 3rd cast application, our Dr suggested that we may need to brace this next time, instead of cast for a 4th time, since she seemed to be doing great in cast, but out of cast she was a little higher. He said it was confusing, but good that she is so very flexibile but that it wasn't holding like he thought it would out of cast. I really didn't fight it at the time, but it has been eating away at me for the last 3 months. Turns out that he was thinking out loud and I shouldn't have taken it to heard. I called the nurse and got the Dr's e-mail address and sent him a message with my concerns. I asked him if we could cast this next time, regardless of the measurements and only consider a brace when we get closer to summer. I also mentioned that I didn't want to lose any possible growth spurts in a brace, since it won't correct. I got the courage from reading of other mothers on here doing the same with their Dr's. I didn't even expect a reply and thought I would have to talk to him about it at her cast removal on 11/8. But, much to my surprise, he messaged back within 48 hours and AGREED. I was so happy. He also must have sensed that I was worried over it and told me that we shouldn't be pessimistic about the correction that we have gotten so far, because she has done very well. It is so wonderful to have a great Dr. that is so close to our home and is Mehta trained. Also, he is not arrogant and actually listens to what I have to say. I have found that Avery's other specialists have been very arrogant and treat me as if I am an idiot (we no longer see any other specialists). Thanks everyone for sharing all of your struggles, because if I hadn't read it on here, I probably wouldn't have questioned him. Randi mom to and Avery 2yrs. Avery in 3rd cast (4th one will be applied on 11/14) down from 39 degrees with 20 degrees rotation to 9 degrees in cast 0 rotation and 24 degrees out of cast with 0 rotation.
