The pioneer of Early Treatment (ET) and the docs on ISOP’s Medical Advisory Board are in agreement that curves above t-8/9 would benefit most from over the shoulder casts. Anything below t-8/9 can have under arm casts.HRH From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of Amber SchollSent: Sunday, January 29, 2012 2:06 PMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: Re: disappointed going into cast #8 ,My sons cast goes over the shoulder. From what I've read that isimportant for higher curves. I do not know the exact vertebrae involvedbut his curve is between/right below his shoulder blades. He is in cast 2right now & oh he looked so skinny when we took off that first one! Iactually didn't like it as much as I thought I would as I thought I wasgoing to break him when I picked him up :( My son before casting wasskinny (as his dad was as a boy) & was a picky eater. We were pleased tofind out he had actually gained 4 lbs while wearing that first cast. Ibelieve that forcing his spine to straighten out took pressure of hisstomach somehow because my baby is now an eater! He eats everything insight & actually asks for food now. However he still looks skinny. Thedietitian at SLC suggested adding powdered milk to his chocolate wholevit. D milk or yogurt & putting cheese on anything. I think I saw oncesomething in the resources section of ISOP website with calorie boosterideas. I make sure that Levi gets a healthy variety of foods but I'm notafraid once he's ate those to dish out the high calorie goodies to makesure he's getting enough.Amberps. Levi is also very active...so active that when we asked about PT whilein cast to maintain muscles & activity level the PA laughed & said that hestrongly believes in PT but in our case it would be a waist of our time & money... so I hear you!> Sherry,> has an older sister who has always been plump :) and just recently> turned 6 and is now starting to slim down some.
