Guest guest
, My older daughter is almost 6, and I can’t believe how skinny she is. She’s a good eater and used to be a very roly poly baby. Does have an older sibling you can compare his changes to? My younger daughter who is casted is also getting skinny (but she has more leg muscle than the older one). She just turned 4. My younger one hasn’t seen much correction in the last few casts (she’s in #8). I think Dr. C is trying different things to manipulate her spine each time. Sherry disappointed going into cast #8 Hello, We are making plans to head to Greenville SC for 's #8 cast! I can hardly believe we have been doing this so long. I have a concern about my being sooo skinny!!! Every time he comes out of another cast his little body seems to get thinner and thinner. Does this seem to be the case with any of your children? is 2 1/2 and is very active for a child in a cast ( in my opinion) You can see every rib and I worry that he doesn't have enough fat or muscle to keep him safe from falls when he is out of his cast. I'm having a really hard time dealing when he gets these casts off because all I see is a really bad curve and a skinny little boy. We started all of this when he was 17 months old and he was chubby and still a baby really! I just need to know that we are doing to right thing!!! I feel so helpless as I sit here and sob. This last cast was a little different from the others in that when the doc cut the D hole in the back he cut it directly over his curve not on the opposite side like he had always done in the past. I questioned the nurse about it and spoke to the doc on the phone about it ( he was still in the casting room with other patients) he told me that he thought it was fine and that it just allowed us to get back there and do something for him if we needed to. I know that the D is to de-rotate the spine but I just thought that maybe the doc should know a little more about it than me! So in a nut shell I'm concerned that I don't see improvement in 's spine and that he is so stinking skinny! Help!
Guest guest
Sherry, has an older sister who has always been plump and just recently turned 6 and is now starting to slim down some. I guess it may just have something to do with him being a little active boy in a cast? Does your daughter's cast go over her shoulders? 's doesn't and I wonder if that has something to do with the lact of results? Thanks- > > , > > My older daughter is almost 6, and I can't believe how skinny she is. Guest guest
The D shaped hole is to be applied on the concavity side of the curve, not past the midline to help address rotation. Some docs are believers in the back window, some are not. Do you know yet if s curve(s) are decreasing in the series of EDF casts? Or, is casting just an avenue to maintain and buy growth time?HRH From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of RichmondgirlSent: Sunday, January 29, 2012 9:28 AMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: disappointed going into cast #8 Hello, We are making plans to head to Greenville SC for 's #8 cast! Guest guest
, When we first went to Greenville Shriners in 6/11, was in his 4th cast from Duke and we decided to go under the docs care @ Shriners at that time. has just come out of cast #7 ( 3rd from Shriners doc) we have not taken an out of cast xray since 6/11. It is my feeling that we are not getting the results that we want... in saying that we have still been given a little hope that casting can cure him. When started at Shriners his curve was at 78* out of cast and in cast the last two times he has measured around 34-35* in cast. I know this is a LONG process but it's all we can do for right now. is in God's hands and all I can do is pray pray pray that He will use these casts to cure him! Thanks for the responses. We leave dark and early in the morning to head to SC! > > The D shaped hole is to be applied on the concavity side of the curve, not > past the midline to help address rotation.
