Guest guest
Thats strange but when he looks for me during these times, i stroke his back or legs or arms, it makes him feel better , maybe not completly calmed but better,,, I can see his bruises on his hips where he hits himself....i show him in the mirror and try to make him understand that its wrong... thanks again xxxx regards Re: Mandi Date: Fri, 14 May 2010 23:15:46 -0000 > Chriso, Just another angle - is he tactilely defensive or does he have issues knowing where his body is in space or where his extremities are. If so you might find the Wilbarger brushing protocol really helpful. You brush the child's back, arms, legs, hands and feet only with a special brush with downward strokes - at first you have to do this every 2 hours. You need to follow with joint compressions. The name of the OT is Wilbarger - you might be able to e-mail her (she has a website). When our son was hitting everybody aged 7 it really helped us (also helped his hypotonia). I don't know if it works for self harm but might be worth a try. > > - > > In a message dated 14/05/2010 20:08:55 GMT Daylight Time, > > tryfonas@... writes: > > > > What alternatives do we have to avoid medication to help control tantrums > > and self aggression? > > its a difficult time at the moment for us...? > > > > >
