It sounds like your doc needs to be reminded of the effects that a 50+ degree curve can have on the lungs. Before casting my son had multiple respiritory infections and was diagnosed with asthma due to his scoliosis. His pulmonologist confirmed that his curve was literally crushing his lungs. Since casting he has not had a single asthma attack. If he is actually using Mehta casting then the cast will actually be more beneficial to your little one's lungs than allowing their spine to crush them!
