Guest guest
Well at least the teacher was very observant! Wow! Hopefully it's nothing, but if it is I think you could consider starting the Mehta process at 4. Guest guest
I would have to agree, we didn't give Jaylin any Medicine before his casting and we was in the recovery before Jaylin woke up so it was a lot easier on him. We have had a longer, bumpier road than most, but we have other medical issues going on as well. I think casting at any age is an option as long as one realizes it's not a fast process..it will be a long road ahead. But that is the same for a brace or surgery. My one suggestion would be make sure you are at a center you feel comfortable with for the long haul and a doctor you have a good relationship with who has the same values you do, and understands the Metha process. We have had good luck not using Versed(makes them drowsy before the actual anestheia is given), it makes my daughter cranky. We have also INSISTED on being brought back to recovery before she wakes up, and the nurses have always been good about this. Makes a world of difference in my daughters behavior. good luck!! > > > > > Just wondering if any one started casting at age 4 to 4 and 1/2 with success? > > > > Best, > > > > Sent from my iPhone > > > > > > ------------------------------------ > > > >
Guest guest
Grace is a different case as she has congenital scoliosis and has already had surgery, but she began casting after her surgery in '09. She has casted during the fall and winter and braced during the summer up until this last September. Our doctor gave her a break from both to see what her spine would do. The curves sort of maintained, but the rotation progressed in her lower spine. We were in this week and ultimately decided that doing nothing wasn't an option anymore and because Grace has severe panic attacks when we put a brace on her we decided (mainly Grace decided) to go back to a cast. Our surgeon isn't ready to do more surgery, but I know we'll have to continue to re-visit that option in the future. Bracing won't help rotation anyway and cast life was the easiest of the options for us. Grace's curve is almost 40* and in cast she's almost at baseline. It just pops back to the almost 40 range when out of cast. It just made me know not to worry about #'s in cast because that really doesn't tell you what is really going on in there. But maintaining a curve is better than a progressing curve, so for us it is still worth it.Grace has always done very well with Versed, no problems at all with it. We also have them put some Zophran (anti-nausea med) in her IV when the put her under because as she's gotten older she gets nauseous when she wakes up.
