As you all know, it's utterly overwhelming to figure out the next stage but my husband, pediatrician and I are trolling through the mountain in information out there... My situation is that we live in Spain and I am increasingly uncomfortable with the treatment options here. The " top " doctor who was recommended to us basically took the list of symptoms I gave him, without a full workup, and said, " Yes your son is on the spectrum and we should start treatment " ! I was floored! Treatment for what exactly, was my response? It'd be like going to the doctor saying you have a headache and the doctor saying, " okay, let's schedule surgery " ! I'd like to take my son to England for a second opinion. Does anyone know anything about The Croft Children's Unit at Cambridge? If so, your thoughts? Are there any other good, progressive diagnostic centers here in Europe anyone would recommend? I took my son to a doctor because I suspected he had some kind of high-functioning autism. But I need more information to determine what the next steps for our family should be. Any advice would be deeply and sincerely appreciated. I have never heard of the Croft being a centre for diagnosing autism, but if I find out anything I shall post again. She has over 30 years of researching under her belt and has found consistently that ASD kids have an underlying problem with the breathing mechanism. She has a simple and gentle programme of exercises which quickly improves the strength of the diaphragm and lungs and though breathing better the children's brains, bowels and colons, sensory awareness and sleeping patterns and behaviours normalise. There are many families on the group who are using TST (the scotson technique) There is a folder in the files section of this group which explains in more detail how TST benefits ASD kids. I believe that until the breathing mechanism is stronger, no lasting change happens... and that sometimes after spending £1000's on diagnostic tests all you end up with is a label for the child and no real progress- 's two hour assessment costs £80. She is based a taxi ride away from Gatwick Airport. Alongside her TST there is a very simple healing and nutritious diet which assists in alkalising the body and healing the gut. I met them through a course I did with these people: www.pps-training.co.uk. I think they come to your home to do the diagnosis – I am sure they could meet you at a relative or friend’s house in the UK if they could not get to Spain.
