So now we are playing the waiting game to see if they are going to cast her again in a couple of weeks or if they are going to go ahead and just put her brace on her that they fitted her for at her last appointment. Part of me wants the brace just because of how hot it is in kansas right now..but i know the cast does so much better at correcting. So we will see what the doctor thinks! Guest guest
Hey everyone, i havent been on here in months mostly due to having to get rid of the internet to afford to be able to go back and forth to get aubrey casted. Shes doing pretty well with the casting. Shes on a break right now with cast number 10 due to her getting sick right before she was supposed to get #11 on. Dr. A thinks shes doing great however i did ask the dreaded question of is this casting going to cure her, and of course i got the answer i knew i was going to get which was NO. Dr. A thinks we can keep Aubrey pretty straight with casting until shes around 6 and probably by the time she turns 6 is when he would like to do growing rods. We have three years to prepare ourselves for this since Aubrey just turned three last Sunday. But any input on growing rods would be appreciated. Other than that Aubrey seems to be pretty happy with having her casts she never complains. Couldnt ask for a happier kiddo with a cast!! Guest guest
Yeah shrs 20* out of cast. But she usually gets a two day break before her next one and you can tell her curve starts going back. Shes on a 6 week break so I know when we go back she will be in the 30sTo: infantile scoliosis treatment From: candice_welch85@...Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2012 16:50:50 +0000Subject: Re: Aubrey update Is Aubrey 20* out of cast?? Guest guest
Please go to the Resource page to read the Veptr parent Handbook. Its says Veptr, but is really for any distraction rod procedure and is full of helpful info. Guest guest
Aubrey may have significant rotation…(?) If so, edf may just be an avenue to buy growth time and maintain. Either way, 72 to 20 is great and if you can continue casting to buy growth and maintain,  prior to any distraction rods, that would be great.HRH From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of Joy LuedemannSent: Friday, March 09, 2012 9:36 AMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: Aubrey update I don't understand why she has to go through surgery if she is down to 20 in the cast. Guest guest
Hey i asked dr.a about the vepter and he said that is not an option for her do to the kind of scoliosis she has. That growing rods are her only option at this point besides the casting and braceing in the summer. He said we will cast her until shes 6 or 7 so buy us some time since she is doing so well with the casting and her curve has improved a lot. i will have to get my picture off my camera of her xrays from the beginning to what she is now. the are amazing. I know eventually she will probably need the rods because she had a very defined curve. but if we can keep up with the casting i think its better for her right now, and to be honest she doesnt mind the cast i think its become one of her "friends" shes very shy when she doesnt have it on. and more outgoing when she has it on! we will see but i will try and keep you guys updated as much as possible! thanks for all the support i really appreciate it! Guest guest
Hi Chelsea.Bracing alternated with proper EDF casting is a great approach to handling severe cases of PIS. The Veptr Parent Handbook was written when my daughter had a version of the Veptr (over 3 / 4 yrs ago), but can be of great use to parents that have children undergoing other types of distraction hardware surgery (as its all distractible)…and very similar…(I need to change the name of that handbook..) Glad lil Aubrey is doing well.HRH From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of Chelsea BritainSent: Saturday, March 17, 2012 9:42 PMSubject: RE: Aubrey update Hey i asked dr.a about the vepter and he said that is not an option for her do to the kind of scoliosis she has.
