Hi Jane,My son is 8 and in cast. I know from reading you have been doing this a lot longer than me and know the ropes a lot better. I know he is very mature for his age however he gets very worried, I think because he is a very serious kid. I try keep stuff to look forward to,such as going to visit family or a vacation that may be coming up, in his head for after the next "doctor" thing to do. I think it helps to just need to get the doctor stuff done so that we can get to the good stuff. Also, I work in the special needs preschool at the same school that my son attends and there are a lot of viruses going around and they are wiping kids out. Hopefully it's just a bug and will soon pass. Best

wishes. From: Jane Bigler <janemhar@...> "infantile scoliosis treatment " <infantile scoliosis treatment > Sent: Sunday, January 22, 2012 9:33 PM Subject: Older cast kids and anxiety/depression?

Sorry to anyone who is on the FB too, but I'm posting this again here.Do any families of older cast kids out there with this issue: Grace hasn't been herself in almost a week. Thought it was bowels, but nope, that's

resolved, she's just been laying around in a funk. No fever, no symptoms really of being sick other than puking once Thursday night. She's been sleeping in late yesterday and today and took a good nap yesterday. She didn't get up until 10 this morning, so I didn't push for a nap today. I'm worried she's depressed about her cast coming up and I don't know what to do about it. All this came on a day or so after we received her cast date. Cast day isn't until 2/27. Help? Advice? She also isn't eating much. She's been drinking, and says she's hungry, but when we put food in front of her she says she feels like she's going to puke. Thanks,JaneGrace, 5 1/2 yrs, moderate omphalocele fully repaired, Congenital scoliosis with hemi-vert. Hemi removed 9/09 followed by series of casts and bracing. Been on a cast/brace break since 9/11. Scheduled to go back into a cast on 2/27.

Hows Grace doing? Hopefully, she is just fighting a cold...If she is not

sick, I would begin dialogue with her on casting and explain why it must

be done. She is experienced with medical issues and getting older...She

may need to know more about why you both must go through great lengths to

help her scoliosis. Only you will know when the time is right for this

conversation....Hope she's better today.
