Guest guest
Hi Amber, My son is a patient in SLC and we cut his cast off at home with tin snips. SLC gave that to us as an option and it works great for us. Also, I know that Angie would likely make arrangements for you to get it cut off at the hospital in SLC on Sunday once you arrive in town. You'll just need to call her to coordinate. Good luck on your upcoming trip! Ann Boros www.curvybaby.comjayann_24@... (I know its a ways away, but I'm a planner..its what gets me through this) I'm not sure if anyone will be available in SLC that Sun when we arrive (by plane) to remove the current cast? I'm sure the care coordinator will answer this for me when I talk to her later, but I was curious what other parents have done? Pros & Cons to removing the cast even earlier somewhere at home that Fri before? Do folks like the extra days for the skin to breath? Do folks not like the extra days because of fear of some correction being lost? I'm also worried that mentally it might be easier for my son to have all procedures done in SLC... so we aren't fighting getting on the plane because he knows he is going back for more when he just got it off etc... At our first casting we were told it was our choice...I of course will ask again, but maybe someone could give me insight to what they preferred? Also where does one get the cast removed if done at home? (our peds dr does not remove casts) Thanks, Amber mommy to Levi (20 mos) 1st cast 31* down to 16/17* in cast
Guest guest
Hey Amber! We remove Logan's casts a little early at home. We use a small pair of tin snips and just work slowly. Usually he watches TV while I cut if off. We take his cast off 5 days prior to the next cast. Logan has FAIR skin and *really* needs this time for his skin to take a breather. So far, we are leaving for cast #11 tonight, he has not regressed. We have casted Logan since he was 9 months old. We have cut off the last 9 at home and he does MUCH better than the saw at shrinners. Plus, we live about 5 hours out, so it saves us an extra 10 hour round trip in the car for a 2 minute visit. I think there is a video on you tube about cutting a cast off at home. I think her name is Makena. I may have that wrong. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Amber Our gp removes 's cast about five days before his next cast. We like having the extra time out of cast however his correction doesn't hold. So this time we are removing the cast a day and a half before. Guest guest
We have had Kieran's cast removed several times on a Sunday at the Shriners in SLC. Let the Care Coordinator know and they will be expecting you on Sunday upstairs in the inpatient area. It is never a problem and always the way we do it. We will be there on Wednesday Jan 11 this time, but will be in town on the 10tth for Kieran's 9th cast. Shauna Leamy Kelsey, Kieran and 's mom > > Hi all, > I have a quick question. Guest guest
Shauna, That is the day we are leaving but might run into you when we stop back in for any adjustments that morning/early afternoon? That would be neat to meet another cast family! Amber > We have had Kieran's cast removed several times on a Sunday at the > Shriners in SLC. Guest guest
Yes, SLC can remove the cast the day before the next one is applied. If you decide you want to try and remove it yourself, just inform SLC prior to doing so. Good luck on the 9th! Please keep us posted. HRH > Hi all, > I have a quick question.
