Guest guest
Thank you very much for this Sharon. It's on my 'to do' list so this was good to see. Guest guest
Hi Sharon What dose do you give your son? my son is high histamine with OCD that raises its ugly head every so often. I have Inositol in the cupboard, after reading your post....might give it a try. Thanks . > > Hello all > > I have considered adding Inositol to my son's list of supplements for some time. In addition to the information I have recently stumbled upon, I originally considered it due to it's recommendations for patients with self abuse symptoms. My son hasn't banged his head in quite some time but the OCD suffices every couple of weeks, and lasts for a couple of weeks. I already knew my son was an undermethylator and recently discovered he probably has issues with high histamine. It has been a problem since the start of Spring. I started giving him anti-histamines and watching that I did not give him more than two foods a day that raise the histamine levels. This is difficult on an already restricted diet (Sara's diet). I depend on a Rice protein powder and this has the amino acid histidine which produces histamine in the body. So you can imagine the difficulty, not to mention, this only worked for 4 weeks and then became a large problem again. In the beginning > of Sara's diet, one of Lukas' recommended supplements was SAM-e. This did wonders for him. This was when I saw laughter and had not realized it wasn't there until it came along. This was when I discovered his altered serotonin metabolism. What I didn't realize is the high histamine is interfering with his serotonin. I found information that Inositol has been proven effective for depression, OCD, and bipolar disorder and anxiety. So I decided to give it a try. He has only been taking it for a weeks time, and I feel like I already see a difference in his moods and a decrease in his OCD. We certainly are not out of the woods yet, but I wanted to share this in case anyone else could find it useful. Certainly what works for one, does not work for all, so if you decide to try it, please keep your hopes at bay. It could take awhile to see results or may not be effective for everyone. Guest guest
We are still in the experimental stages. Last week I started with only 10mg but after some research I gave him 500 mg per day this week. He is only 40 lbs. If you check out some of the links I posted with the original email it may give you better dosing ideas. I saw more results when I uped the dose 500 mg. I aslo started with only once a day, and I am now giving 2x. I split the 500 between them. I also make sure my son has a source of choline foods everyday. Guest guest
Hi I see this post as I have just added a new link to the list- Inositol is used at much higher doses in clincial trial of OCD and anxiety- we are talking 2x 6gr a day! on empty tummy, so you are way too low here- these higher doses are well tolerated with ASD children. I did dose last night and this morning at 600mg..he seems calmer, so fingers crossed its not just wishful thinking!!! x > > > > > > > > Hello all > > > > > > > > I have considered adding Inositol to my son's list of supplements for some time. Guest guest
Hi Lorene, Thanks, yes we are working our way up to a higher dose. My son is only 40 pounds and almost 4 yrs old. I read that anywhere from 3-6 grams was an effective dose, so I am starting out on the lower side. I do see some results with 500 mg but intend to up the dose next week. I will keep you all posted with his progress on this if interested. Thanks Sharon > > > > > > > > Hello all > > > > > > > > I have considered adding Inositol to my son's list of supplements for some time.
