Guest guest
Hi There, Just a brief update/background on Kylie. Kylie was diagnosed with a 45 degree curve in August 2010. (At age 17 months). Her first cast was put on in London, Ontario (London Health Sciences aka London Sick Kids) by Dr. C. May 17, 2011. (26 months old) The cast was removed June 20th with a new cast supposed to go on June 21st. Due to an emergency our Dr. had, the cast was postponed. In the meantime, Kylie had some sores under her cast and I decided we didn't want to cast her without the knit rite shirt. It took us a few weeks to get her shirt ordered and received so we missed our casting date of July 5th and ultimately decided to wait until August 31 and let her finish out the summer cast free (not an easy decision). She had a second cast put on August 31 (almost 30 months old) with the Knit Rite shirt. It came off October 5 (she was a flower girl in a wedding onOctober 9th) and then the new one was put on October 11th. She is now down to 15 degrees! I'm attaching a before an after picture just because I'm thrilled with our results. Our Knit rite shirt has seen some extreme wear at the " seams " (not traditional seams) and we definitely need a new one (looks like pantyhose runs along the seam). Dr gave us the option of bracing after this cast, I said NO WAY... keep at it! I think the winter time is the best time for Kylie to be in the cast. This cast was a lot thicker than Dr would've liked, and her center of gravity is off but she's a trooper and we'll be okay until the end of November or early December with this cast. The " cast cooler " has been great for itchies (much less now with the fall weather) and our 2nd and 3rd cast did not have the full cut out at the back. There is a cut out with the plaster of paris but the fibre glass has a thin layer over the hole (can see where the cut out is) I'm not crazy about it, but I think it was convenience and time with our OR time being limited. I'm so thrilled with the results! 1 of 1 File(s) Kyliexray.pdf
