Guest guest
Hey everyone. i know some of you have gone through issues with hips maybe you can help me. we wnt to thaddeus PT today and i had noticed he didnt want to put to much weight on his legs and talked it overwith PT and she said take him in. I called our Ortho and didnt get through so we drove into BCCH. well what i thought maybe the cast was pinching a nerve of something but it turns out his hips mainly the right is pushing out of joint and he is to go in Next week for emergency double hip surgery OMG! didnt see this comeing. we are going to be taking his cast off tomorrow of friday to get ready for surgery. he will be going into a spica cast for 4 weeks that will be from Nipples to ankel and then we will see how he recovers. I have no idea what to expect and if anyone has been through this and has advice i would love it. Thaddeus is now almost 3 so i know this will be a challeng with him wanting to move around. we dont know what will happen with his mehta casting after it really depends on how he is barring weight. our Dr believe that because we achieved so much correction in his cast it put presure on a already weak hip and it couldnt hold. Guest guest
I seem to remember seeing other parents a long time ago mentioning having a cast that was a spica and Mehta in one. Can you ask them to consider that? So sorry about all this , hope things go smoothly. *hugs* Jane From: <candice_welch85@...>infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Wednesday, November 2, 2011 4:45 PMSubject: Need help Advice on Hips Hey everyone. i know some of you have gone through issues with hips maybe you can help me. we wnt to thaddeus PT today and i had noticed he didnt want to put to much weight on his legs and talked it overwith PT and she said take him in. Guest guest
Hi ,Im so sorry to hear about Thaddeus’s upcoming hip surgery. Are his hips subluxed or dislocated? The only advice I have is to speak to your doc about addressing both issues at simultaneously. It has been done successfully beforeIn SLC and perhaps your doc would be willing to learn and give it a shot. Please read Lily’s Story in the Story section of www.infantilescoliosis.org , under combo casts. The doc in SLC is always willing to share his knowledge and experience. Please share Lilys story with Thaddeus’s doc and let me know if ISOP can help.HRHFrom: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of Sent: Wednesday, November 02, 2011 5:45 PMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Need help Advice on Hips Hey everyone. i know some of you have gone through issues with hips maybe you can help me. we wnt to thaddeus PT today and i had noticed he didnt want to put to much weight on his legs and talked it overwith PT and she said take him in. Guest guest
Hey , My daughter had bilateral hip dysplasia and progressive scoliosis. They treated her for both at the same time in a combo spica/EDF cast. She wore it for 4 months. Then went into a hip brace. She was only 4-8 months old during casting so she already had her limitations so I can see how your situation is different. However, the spica cast in it self is already pretty restrictive so I would inquire about a combo cast. I'm very sorry that you are now dealing with this above everything else. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I also have pictures I could send you. In our case, the hips were the easiest ''fix'' as Novella is still being treated for her scoliosis and connective tissure disorder. I'm wishing you a ''quick fix'' as well! Guest guest
thanks Thaddeus hips have always been a issue. he was in a pelvic harness and rino cruiser brace but nothing has helped. because of the great correction in his spine the hip couldn't take it and now has got worse. I do think the surgery will help him walk better after and I am excited to see what happens. We go in on Monday for a xray so I will ask about the combo cast. could you sent me a pic of the combo cast. also did you see any correction in the spine in the cast or just holding? im not sure if our cast will be in a sitting position or a laying down posision. it reall depends how they do the surgery I guess. also how did you diaper?? we were trying to potty train but that is now out the window. I'm wondering if I should get smaller diapers or the normal size he would wear? any trick you have would be greatthanksOn 2011-11-04, at 11:19 AM, Troy Willmann <troy.willmann@...> wrote: Hey , My daughter had bilateral hip dysplasia and progressive scoliosis.
