We go to Texas ish Rite. We like it there and have been going over a year.

Make sure you bring all paperwork, xrays, ect bc on your first appointment they

will evaluate everything. The mcdonald house is right down the road and

very convient. We stay there every time. Maybe we will meet you! Make sure you

call tsrh once in awhile to check on your patient status while waiting to become

a patient. It took us awhile to get thhrough that whole process.

Hello everyone...

My name is Dawn and we live in Central Texas. My youngest son, Latham (14

months) suffered a stroke during the birthing process and was diagnosed at 4

months old with cystic encephlamalacia, mild/moderate (spastic) cerebral palsy,

GERD, failure to thrive, global developmental delay, poor/lack of proper eye

motor control and torticollis... During his hospital stay in January 2011 at S & W

Temple TX, I expressed my concerns about his back/ribcage not looking right,

only to be told that it was caused from his torticollis... Months past, and at

about 12 months of age, Latham began to develop hard masses/lumps/tumors on his

forearms and when his peditrician said he needed to see radiology for x-ray I

begged and pleaded until he agreed to order a spinal x-ray, along with the

x-rays of his forearm... The procedure requested (getting from radiology report)

was 'SPINE, SCOLIOSIS, T-L' and the findings state 'RIGHT CONVEX THORACIC

SCOLIOSIS MEASURING 26 DEGREES IS

PRESENT WITH APEX AT T8-T9'... This x-ray was done on Oct. 20th 2011 and we

have yet to see an orthopedic doctor so what is written on this report is

something that I completely DO NOT understand. We have waited almost 2 months

with no response from orthopedics at S & W Temple and 3 totally different

diagnosises on the masses on his arms (which is very scarey to me because his

LDH levels are highly elevated and the possiblity of it being cancer scares me

to death)... This past week, I took it upon myself (with his pedi's referral) to

apply to Texas ish Rites in Dallas. I don't know much about scoliosis but I

have heard they are one of the best orthopedic hospitals in my area. If anyone

could maybe shed some light on what his radiology report means and what we might

be facing in the future, please do... I am totally lost and need all the

guidance I can get.

I agree with Tame.  We have also had a great experience at ish Rite hospital.  I agree with taking all info and x-rays and questions that you want to ask.  I know it is so hard waiting and wondering what everything means.  Praying you get answers and that you get into SR soon.

As a side note my son also has multiple issues and at our 1st appt the doc was already consulting w docs in other departments going over xray films when we left. The first apt took about 4 hours so pack snacks! You will have to go to several departments. Sent from my iPhoneOn Dec 14, 2011, at 11:08 AM, and Leah Jeffries <scottandleah@...> wrote:

Hi Dawn,

I'm sorry that you and lil Latham have been through so much already. Good

job on following your maternal intuition and insisting that a spine film

was taken! Many cases of infantile scoliosis are self resolving, so

hopefully this will be the case with Latham...But, its better to find out

asap in order to properly advocate for him. The team at ish Rite has

a lot of experience with PIS and will be able to answer most questions you

have on the condition and if he is a candidate for Mehtas early Treatment.

May I recommend a couple of items to help get you started in

understanding the necessary principles of this gentle & corrective

treatment? Please read " Growth as a corrective force in the Early

Treatment of progressive infantile scoliosis, " Mehta, MD, FRCS which can

be found on site or in the Files section of CAST. Also, view A New

Direction DVD which can be found in the youtube portion of

www.infantilescoliosis.org (in 3 parts). These 2 items are super helpful

in understanding this process, so please let us know if you have any

questions after you've had time to review.

Please keep us posted and welcome to CAST!

Sincerely,

HRH
