We are scheduled to go in on Thursday to get fit for a Boston brace and a Providence brace, which he said is a night time bending brace???? Has anyone ever used both? Take one off, then put on the other at bedtime? She currently has a g-tube, so I wonder if they can open a spot for that? Also, does anyone know where I can purchase the Knit-rite under shirts? They're website is down, so, I have no clue where these even come from.....sheesh! Guest guest
No. When we first started the scoli journey he had one curve and it was about 11 degrees so we did a bending brace to try and straighten that out. He was 2. My son had really low tone at 2 and was just learning to walk ... I don't want to make you nervous but be caught hell in that brace. Just be prepared. He was very scared. He couldn't roll over in it for a longggggg time. He couldn't sit up or walk in it. He slept w me. When he learned to rill over it was like sleeping w a flipping pancake:) Once he got used to it he didn't mind it. I think it made his back feel good. We drug the damned thing to guatamala and back:) your daughter will be fine. Ben had a ton of other issues going on at the time. Maybe just let her explore it first and try it on a stuffed animal? Have you ever had a brace of any kind? They are much different than a cast. The doc will instruct you how to work into them.... Kids grow the most at night so that's why the bending brace is supposed to be good though I don't think it's commonly used. It's a very odd contraption;) TameSent from my iPhone On Nov 29, 2011, at 11:56 AM, Trantham <brendalinnia@...> wrote: Hi Tame, She just turned 2 in October...so, did you guys do both? Guest guest
Hi , Liv used both. She was unable to wear the night time bending brace because its designed to go opposite curve direction...Livs main thoracic curve was so severe that the inexperienced orthotist (not in SLC, but in Denver) made a horrible bending brace. It was made against the curve alright! So much so she couldnt even tolerate it for 5 mins. It was a complete waste of time. Ide make sure your'e in the room when the orthotist molds her for it and if she is bent opposite her curve too much, have them ease up a bit. No sense in making her a brace that she cant tolerate. Im not sure about the shirts but do a search here in CAST for Knit rite shirts and a link or two should pop up. Good luck and please keep us posted. Guest guest
, My daughter has a g-tube and the brace she is in has a cutout for it, much like the cast. As far as shirts go, Shriners Hospital gave us some, but I also bought some regular undershirts because my daughter sweats a lot and the undershirts aren't as thick. mom to Audrey casts and brace, SLC > > Hi all, > > Well, Layla has been straight casted for about a year now, and because of skin issues, the doctor thinks it would be best to begin alternating with braces.
