Guest guest
Hi guys n gals! I've only read a million posts on this so you would think I'd know the answer......... has some nasty raw sores around his hip bones and one semi raw sore up a bit higher (on top of a surgical scar which I'm a bit worried about). We are on the road. We washed them with water, pulled the cast out a bit w pliers and put some neosporin on the worst one. He's kinda sweaty so when we get home we will clean him up better and put new moleskin ect. My question is aren't we suppssed to use aquifor or candula cream rather than neosporin? Thanks tame
Guest guest
had cast sores near her hip bones with this cast. It's taken a good month for us to get them under control. We're still working on them, actually, but they are pretty much better (and have been for the week or so). What worked for us was to us two pieces of gauze. One piece we'd get damp with saline and put it on the sore. The other piece was dry, and we'd put it over the wet piece. That helps wick the moisture out of the wound, and helps it heal from the inside out. You don't want it to scab over until the very end. Guest guest
We unfortunately had a pretty large cast sore in our last cast. What worked really well was using a piece of xeroform (you can get it at the pharmacy) directly on the sore, no triple antibiotic or anything. Then we covered it with gauze and then some paper medical tape stuff so it was easy and painless to change the dressing. The xeroform helps prevent scabbing, while facilitating the wound to heal. We never had any scabbing and once the pressure from the cast & brace were removed it healed really fast. Guest guest
Hey... My daughter Amber just had her first cast removed on Friday and all she had was a couple of small sores. One was from the undershirt being folded over. Then there was a small one on the spine and of course on her hips it looked like the cast scraped her but there was nothing too serious. We are going back to Shriners on Wednesday to have her second cast put on. Thank you to everyone for sharing your experiences on here. You all have made this alot easier for me to deal with. Thanks so much... We will be in Greenville, SC on Wednesday from 9:30 until later on in the afternoon maybe we will run into someone from here. He never complained:( We head to kansas on the 20th and he gets his 4th cast on august 8th. I can't believe he will be castes for 6 months by then. Wow. Time flies ....
