Guest guest Posted August 10, 2011 Report Share Posted August 10, 2011 This is great news, but PLEASE when passing this information on, and it should be passed on, remember to say that a breakthrough has been reached for IDIOPATHIC Scoliosis. There are a few different types of scoliosis and I would hate for a parent to get all excited about a cure that will not pertain to their child (ie: a child with Congenital Scoliosis). Of course this doesn't mean that in the future there won't be a potential cure for Congenital Scoliosis, but it is crucial to always use the proper terminology - just as has always maintained with the use of "Progressive Infantile Scoliosis" "EDF" "ET" "POP" etc. I am thrilled that there is a cure on the horizon for these kids! My daughter, , has congenital scoliosis as well, which is why I read the article so carefuly and asked that the Idiopathic be used when passing the info along. Your child has many options available to them for treatment - many involve surgery, that is true, but the surgical options have come so far in just the last 10 - 12 years it is amazing in and of itself! My daughter has the VEPTR which was put in place when she was 3, she is now 9 and she has done extremely well with them. At this stage of her life, anything that keeps her from having fusion is a good thing. If you haven't checked it out yet, may I direct you to CongenitalScoliosisSupport ?
