Guest guest
Hi all, Just wanted to let those of you on the diet know that after 8 years we have got finally off the diet. There seems to be a lack of information on this particular subject so thought you might like to know how we did it. is nearly 13 years old and we have tried many times to get him onto other foods but each time he would start to react after a day or two. We have used Houston Enzymes since they were first introduced but he could never take a huge amount (especially of the Peptisyde capsules) as he would get diarrhea. We just assumed that this was his maximum dose - wrongly as it happens. Meanwhile, most other foods off diet caused him problems. Anyway, we decided to bite the bullet as they say and try once and for all to sort the problem. Coincidently, had just started Secondary School and they told us that he is due to go away overnight in July. They are a brilliant school but I just couldn't see them opening up capsules etc so we ordered some Trienza Chews (thank you Mandi). As it happened, this was an excellent move. For whatever reason, can take plenty of the chews unlike the capsules. We decided to start on Porridge Oats as I read in Defelices book about their healing properties. Two spoonfuls of Oats every morning with just under a quarter a pint of milk. I have to confess about being really worried on the dairy topic. We saw some speech return for when we took away the dairy eight years ago and reintroducing it was a huge issue for me. Anyway, we got hold of a mix of Guernsey and Jersey milk from the Co-op. Not organic but the best I could hope for at the moment. For the first six or seven weeks we had quite a few ups and downs. I think we got rid of gut bugs and had some die off and I was thinking about giving up because daily school reports were not good and we were all suffering when suddenly it all came right. He was calmer, toileting better and generally brighter. Next we reintroduced organic butter for both toast, sandwiches and in baking. No problem here at all. In fact, I think this has helped him a huge amount with his speech and brain activity. We are extremely excited about this particular area as we think there must be some repair work going on in the background somewhere! He just seems to be 'getting it' a lot more and his speech and sentence formation has improved immensly. He even understood me the other day when I was teasing him. He would never have got this before. Next I made homemade yoghurt using the same milk and worked up to three large spoonfuls every day. The most recent thing we have added is wheat. I made a loaf using wheat flour and basic ingredients. Again he has had no problems. Our plan now is to keep him on normal but pure foods for a period of time so that his body can adjust properly to wheat, gluten, dairy etc. Don't get me wrong, we are not completely unrestricted. There will probably be some things he will never be able to eat, but my hope is that eventually we will be able to let eat some ordinary foods without having to worry quite so much about their content. This is the shortened version, but if anyone wants to know the finer points I would be happy to give you the details. Just drop me an email.
