I think we are finally feeling settled in. Anyway, at the emd of this month n goes in for his 6th cast. I know I saw it on here a while back about how some can remove the cast at home, how do you do that? The past 5 removals have been sooooo traumatic, not only for n but for me. Guest guest Posted September 13, 2011 Report Share Posted September 13, 2011 After dealing with the traumatic saw 5 times. We opted to use tin snips at home and do it ourselves. We have now done it twice at home with no drama! We lay Jonas on his back on a bean bag. Then remove all tape/moleskin. We start at the bottom and cut straight up the middle. IT TOOK ABOUT 1 MIN. & SHE DID NOT MAKE A PEEP!!! Guest guest Posted January 13, 2012 Report Share Posted January 13, 2012 Hi ! Sorry for the late reply..we did go down to Boston to get the cast trimmed under the arms and she is SO much happier. She did advocate for us to do it ourselves at the house but we didn't have the right equipment! She wanted the tin-snips. Her arms are still swollen but I do see some positive difference. The doctor said it might take a few more days for the swelling to go down, and if not then call him on Monday. As for the apex of her curve we did discuss that she's right on the border for an over-the-shoulder and the docs don't feel it is necessary..but her curve is being stubborn. I think a video for taking off casts would be great! We were so nervous our first time..just a tip, at the hospital for some reason they make the cut on the side of the body?..we find it much easier to go up the front or the back, less plaster to get through!. Also one for the best techniques to pad the cast, how to get in the tight spaces and best methods for applying moleskin?
