Guest guest
Hello- I am trying to prep myself for my son' s first cast on October 10th. I called the cast clinic to ask a few questions and they told me that after he is casted they wrap the edges with waterproof tape that is " pink, well salmon colored " . I know that this is such a minor detail, but my son is 7 years old and his major question is what color will my cast be. How can I possibly tell a seven year old he is going to have a pink, well salmoned colored cast. Do you know if I can purchase more water proof tape in a different color? Also any thing you have to offer to prepare us for casting an older kid (or any kid) would be great!! Thanks so much, Mock
Guest guest
Hi Y'all! About that " gray anti-funk T-shirt " -- could you please tell me more? Is this a special fabric? or does it have a special name? We're in Nova Scotia and not that many casting kids come thru the ortho dept, and I want to make sure we get the right shirt. So I'd love to know what to ask for! :-) THANKS SO MUCH! > > We also have the peach colored water proof tape...but Sierra is only 2 1/2 and this is her 8th cast so it is just the Norm for her! They do make all kinds of printed and colored Duct tape. I have seen it at Target stores & on line. I have seen Boys on the site with spider man & the hulk....Just ask around there are a lot of cool stuff out there. Are you gonna be having the gray anti-funk t-shirt under the cast??? lol! It is a must! Sierra has never smelled at all & we live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama...talk about hot & humid. I do use duct tape around the edges b/c of diaper issues! Good Luck! > Kristi Mommy to Sierra started casting at 12 mo. in April 2010 now in 8th cast...down to ZERO in cast! P.S. make sure they give you an extra roll of the peach tape. I actually like it b/c it is a lite peach & does not show through Sierra’s clother...especially white! > > From: > Sent: Wednesday, September 28, 2011 10:39 AM > infantile scoliosis treatment > Subject: waterproof tape and first casting > > > Hello- > I am trying to prep myself for my son' s first cast on October 10th. Guest guest
It's called a knit rite shirt. We get ours from the hospital. I know some families have had to purchase theirs but I'm not sure where they get them. Hopefully they will respond as well. Ann Boros www.curvybaby.comjayann_24@... Guest guest
Hey! Yes! it is called a Torso-Interface...The original Protective Body Sock..Manufactured by Knit-Rite Inc. Kansas City, Kansas 66105 USA. We get ours from the Hospital at Children’s in B’ham Alabama. It is provided! It is grey and fits like a sock! Sierra is tiny...26 lbs. so she gets the extra tiny one, but boy does it work. We have never had a skin problem after cast coming off & she wears her cast 12 weeks at a time & she is an infant so you can only imagine!!! LOl! Some people take them off and wash them but it is way to much trouble for us! It is a must have under the cast! I have the package right in front of me if u have anymore questions....u can give me a call or e-mail off line! Good Luck! Kristi Mommy to Sierra....8th cast...started at 34 degrees. Now down to Zero in cast! 9th cast scheduled for Dec. 2nd! kristij@... on FB Kristi Strickland 251-986-7022 or cell 251-228-0431 From: Boros Sent: Thursday, September 29, 2011 9:10 AM infantile scoliosis treatment Subject: RE: Re: waterproof tape and first casting It's called a knit rite shirt. Guest guest
Hi , I think its FABULOUS that your doc is willing to EDF cast a 7 yr. old! My daughter was casted from age 2.5 to age 8 and I know it improved her life greatly in the long run. It helped with her overall alignment, molded the rib hump down, helped buy time for thorax growth and helped support a multi faceted conservative approach for her SEVERE infantile scoliosis. She is 13.5 now and is doing great. As Liv got older it was super helpful for both of us to decorate her cast. We used Mod Podge and the fabric of her choice. Decorating her cast was easy, fun and she took pride in her decorated cast. It also gave strangers something to comment on besides their shock of seeing a child in a cast. I actually saw some Transformers cotton material the other day at the fabric store and immediately thought of how cool it would look on on a boy cast. Let me know if you need more info on decorating.
