EEks, youre that far below your bmr, and still awake?? LOL

I would be crashed by now!! Im eating about 100 calories above my bmr, and so far still losing inches and pounds....of course it could be the good Lord letting me do that too, so Id see some results right away and not drop out!! LOL (He knows me soooo well! LOL)

Tina, are you using a protein powder? If you arent, maybe you could get some and add it to your myoplex..... 1 serving has about 100-125 calories, and it will up your protein too :) Just a thought :)*Hugs* to take away the discouragement,

Allergic to milk products, remember? I can't do Myoplex shakes. I'm going to

go out this weekend and see if I can find a good soy protein powder and try it

in that power oatmeal recipe. Maybe that'll help.

Four inches is great progress, so throw away that bathroom scale!!

We all have days (sometimes more than one!) where we feel

discouraged. One thing that has helped me is something I got off the

Hussman website under his " tweaking " section. He says to write down

this statement and read it every day:

" Tomorrow and every day I will wake up leaner, stronger, and more

toned. I will have flatter abs, thinner thighs and slimmer hips (**

these are my goals, you fill in whatever your particular goals are).

Today I will do whatever it takes to achieve these goals. "

I can't tell you how many times I have turned away temptation or

dragged my a** out of bed in the morning by saying that to myself,

particularly the line " Today I will do WHATEVER it takes to achieve

my goals. " Hang in there Tina, and remember, plateaus are only

stepping stones on your way up the mountain.

TwinLabs makes a soy powder called Vege Fuel and NOW

makes a basic soy powder too. If you have a health

food store near you, such as Whole Foods here in

Texas, usually you can find soy protein powder in the

bulk section, and at a pretty good price too.

You may want to ditch the carb from the last meal of the day and have

double protein. See if that helps, or even have carbs only 4 meals

out of 6. Do you regularly use protein powder (whey's apparently the

best)? That helps you get a good helping of pure protein in one shot.

A while ago somebody posted a great piece about getting proteins from

combinations of certain kinds of beans and veggies, so that should

give you more variety. And of course there's plenty you can do with

beef, chicken and turkey.

Is it possible you're under-eating? If so, that would drive your

metabolic rate down, making it harder to lose fat.

Tina, hang in there and adjust. Go out and buy some EAS Simply Soy which

will give you a concentrated powder that has soy protein, but relatively low

carbs. You can do extra cardio but not if you are not feeding yourself.

Try cutting out cardio on your three weight lifting days and have a high

carb protein meal immediately after weights. do an extra meal if necessary

as I know amount per meal is a problem. Remember if you give yourself at

least 90 minutes from the end of one meal to the start of the next you will

be okay from an insulin standpoint. Too few calories, as you know, just

doesn't work. Let us know how you're doing. You are a champion and this

is just a speed bumb. Look at it as a learning experience. There is no

short cut and the fastest way is to train and eat smart, not more or less.

Many thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement. I went out today

and bought some EAS Soy Protein from Walmart, but I didn't pay much attention to

the label. Seems it has 20g of protein but also 18g of carb, too. Guess I need

to see if I can find some other brand of soy protein that has less carbs, if

possible. I also grabbed a couple of bags of beef jerky, which I love and is

high in protein, low in fat and no carb. One 4oz. bag has 320 calories, 56g

protein and 2g fat, which is pretty good spread out over the day.

I have also read several articles recently linking women's inability to lose

weight with a lack of calcium and women who had hit plateaus being able to break

off of them by upping their calcium intake. Seeing as how I'm allergic to milk,

I definitely have a calcium deficiency in my diet, so I'm going to start taking

Viactive calcium chews again (they taste great, I highly recommend them). I

also got the fixins for the power oatmeal and had some this morning. I find I

can only eat about a third of a package of oatmeal at a time, though. I'm also

going to cut back on my extra cardio, especially the 40 minutes on my free day.

Hopefully all of these things will help kick-start my fat loss.

I definitely need to see if there's anyway I can get one of those hydrowhatsis

tests to measure my bodyfat. I definitely think that biothingamagigie was

definitely wrong. I don't see how its possible for me to be 180 lbs. with 41%

bodyfat. An article in this month's Shape says that the electrical impedence or

whatever they are called overestimate fatness by 9%. Figuring my bodyfat at 41%

would mean I have a LBM of 106 lbs., which just isn't possible for me. Figuring

it at 9% less would be an LBM of 122, which sounds quite a bit more reasonable.

I just have a very difficult time believing that I have 73 lbs. of bodyfat right

now!

Anyway, thanks again to everyone. You guys are great! Wish me luck this

weekend, local radio station is giving away tickets to the Bon Jovi concert,

they're going to be closing Summerfest this year, and I've been listening to the

damn radio all day trying to win some. :) I'M DETERMINED, DAGNABBIT!

Hey Tina :) I had to go to walmart today and get some protein supplements,(until my backorder of Precision gets here)......man! Dont they sell any with low carbs???? sheeeeeeeeesh! I found some I thought Id like, but it had lots of carbs too, like what you bought.... anyway, the last acceptable thingy of prot. pwdr I bought was from a walmart 65 miles away, and the stores closer to home just have that other gobbeldygook! argh! LOL

Anyway, I FINALLY found some plain old protein Powder, stuck way up high under a banner on the top shelf (good thing im 5'10")and it was okay.... only 3g on the carbs and 3g's on the sugar.....but its in a teensy can.....i sure hope it holds out till my other stuff gets here! ugh!

Im going to have to check into the beef jerkey....sometimes I just want a protein supp. without all the extra calories..... :) And I love that stuff! LOLThanks for the tip :)~~

ps....I took my free day today...and I was baaaaaaaaaaaad! I usually do great, but today was pretty stressful, and I binged.....*sigh* well, Ill climb back on the wagon and get going again....LOL

I love it and the high protein/low fat gives me a good excuse to eat it. ;) Our

local Walmart has a brand called Jack Link's and comes in regular, teriyaki,

peppered and sweet & hot. I prefer the sweet & hot but my hubby doesn't like the

smell of it so I stick to regular and teriyaki. I definitely recommend it, one

of the best I've ever had. Much better than Oberto's, IMO, which is rather dry

and powdery. Jack Link's is pretty moist for beef jerky. They have it on

special right now for $3.50 per 4 oz. bag, which isn't bad if you use it as a

meal supplement (cheaper than a meal at McD's), but its regularly $3.97/bag.

You are already doing the right thing: back to fluids for a day to

give the tummy a rest. It is almost impossible to eat dry foods for

the first month or so. The tummy hates it. Then, after a day of

liquids, return to soft, moist foods.

so then the corn flakes was a bad idea right?? i was worried my

recovery was turning for the worst but i think i just learned the

hard way.

im eating jello, drinking water, and eating Ritz to soak up some

acid.

thanks for the advice. i was starting to think i would be eating

jello the rest of my life............lol.

Ditch the beef jerky (spicy), ditch the corn flakes (no protein) and

cook your self a chicken thigh (dark meat is more moist) remove the

skin for now, later post-op you can eat it if you want....munch on

that chicken thigh like you did on the corn flakes ( just pick at

it). Eat fish...it is soft and light on the stomach. Your 3 weeks

and not a revision, no problems with leaks...so start eating

your " soft " " moist " meats. Add cooked green beans just to make

yourself feel like your eating normal. I craved spinach so I would

squeeze all the juice out of canned spinach and scramble an egg in

it. Start adding PROTEIN based foods into your diet...ONE new thing

at a time....eat slowly, tiny tiny bites...chew well and wait a few

seconds between bites.

thanks jo. im staying away from meats right now though- maybe i will

do salmon. im still on soft foods and i already did a dumb thing by

thinking corn flakes could soak up acid- duh vicki.

protein im working on but definitely not getting all of it in yet.

today, the tummy is resting so im just doing water, some soft

crackers, and jello.

i feel so much better now. the good thing about this is that the

nausea was from something i ate. i can control that. so for dinner,

its scrambled eggs. that sounds good.

protein is like 30 g right now if im lucky so i figure each week, i

will try to get in more. i love nuts and jerky and all that so when

i can eat it, i wont need to supplement. not everything i eat is

protein enriched though because im just trying to eat period.

my tummy is still acidy right now but im learning.........the hard

way. i dont want to learn that way anymore.......lol

I highly recommend tuna on saltines. And I was eating tuna at

like 7 days postop. Push through the nausea if you can... cause the

protein will make you feel lots better. Eat often. Dont limit

yourself to three meals a day and then you wont be mourning " how much

you can't eat " . You can eat whatever you want, just make sure it's

protein first :)

Hang in there. Keep a long term focus. IT gets better. Way better.

Baby steps, Vicki. Baby steps! Try not to graze all day on one

food. That's a sure way to upset your new tummy. Try one or two

bites at a time of new foods during meal time. If you feel like

you're hungry, try water first. It's said that our dehydration

triggers are so whacked that we think we're hungry when we're

actually thirsty. Take it little by little. It's frustrating, but

normal eating WILL come.

I have been listening to for about a month. I went to the beginning and

working my way thru her podcasts. I have quite a bit of weight to lose...what

might be helpful for you is to keep track ...write down everything that goes in

your mouth. I use a online food diary...it tracks my calories, sodium,

everything...gives me charts of my progress and shows you where your calories

are coming from. I know I thought I wasnt doing so bad...til I started writing

it down. Are you walking...or exercising at all? Even walking 30 min's makes

you feel better. My weight isnt falling off either...its very

frustrating...but...think of it this way...the less we poke in there...thats bad

for us...more we walk...we will feel better.

I can give you the oneline food diary I use if you think you might like that??

I am starting the podcasts over as well. I will be listening to one per day

I know how discouraged feels....I have been listening for about a month.  I know

all the things say are pretty much common sense....and we all know that if

you burn more than you take in...pounds come off....but when you go down to 1400

calories....and you try to walk....I guess you hope...think that it would come

off a little quicker.  I lost like 20 lbs...and now I have stalled.  I look at

my food diary....and I'm not sure what else to do.  I wish I could kick up my

exercise more...but I am having trouble with a ankle that the doctor says I must

go easy on.    Its frustrating.

How are things going for you??

Rita I'm sending you my intention for you to get what you need from this

journey. Perhaps your weight has just stabilized and that in itself is your

victory until you can reach a deeper level of understanding. There is victory

all around you. You are plugging away despite the fact that you are not losing

weight. That's fantastic! You have not given up! You are reaching out for

help which also may be progress for you. I once wrote down all the gifts this

journey has given me when I was at a low point and it completely transformed me.

It really is amazing that all the tools we need are within us. We just don't

always know how to access them.

I started the podcasts about 10 days ago and I've just listened to #19 today.

I'm finding that checking the scales is the last place that I'm looking for

progress, as I'm seeing it in so many other ways.

I notice myself automatically checking-in to my hunger level before I decide

what to eat, and often (though not always) making very different food choices

than I have for most of my adult life. My choices are much more about what my

body wants rather than simply what my emotional self wants to stuff herself

with. I'm also noticing that I'm not obsessing about food the way I usually do.

I wonder are you making use of all the tools that is teaching us. I'm not

sure which podcast you're up to, but I do know that by following 's

suggested methods, even when they seem to take too much time in my busy life,

I'm making big differences, and not just around food.

Can you find some successes on this journey so far? Are you able celebrate that

you're willing to start again - willing to 'redo' the podcasts to get more from

them, and that you've posted to the group asking for support? I hope so. In

doing those things you've made a big commitment to your future self and I admire

you for that.

I wish you all the best on this journey, and hope you can find compassion and

love for the parts of you that don't yet 'get it'.

It took me a long time to realize that action is the path to success.

The podcasts give me ideas for actions I can take to change my behaviors, which

is the only way to permanent weight loss.

For example, the guided journey Sabotage Self-sabotage takes me through a

conflict resolution technique. It's good to learn, but I didn't start changing

until I actually started using the technique on different conflicts I had in my

thinking and eating behaviors.

With each podcast you listen to, choose one thing in your life that you can do

differently. Then do it, but don't plan to do it perfectly forever, just giving

it a try is good enough.

As you try things, pay attention to what works, and keep trying those things

again.

We make lots of plans in life. Just a few of them work out. So we make more

plans and keep going. Each action that worked out, even once, is added to our

pile of successes. Each action that didn't work out, is added to our pile of

knowledge.

You know, I feel bad for you. I've noticed that there are quite a few

people who say that they have listened to the podcasts, but admit that

they have been unable to stop binging or overeating (to the point that

they like). I'm thinking of the DIF: duration, intensity and frequency.

Have any of those changed for you at all?

It makes me sad because my wish for you and everyone who listens is that

we can use the tools and lead a happier life. I know the pain of being

overweight (and in my case, I was obese). It robbed me of so much, and

I'm not at the point of being grateful for the struggle, although I

guess I am grateful for the compassion that it gives me for

overweight/obese people. Maybe some of us actually need to have personal

sessions with , rather than just listening. But I know that not

everyone has the money to do so, especially in today's economy. I truly

believe the answers are in the podcasts; there are gems in there. It

completely transformed my ideas (and actions) about overeating. But I

can only speak for myself, and there's nothing wrong with you that you

haven't been able to " get it " . You're reaching out and that's good.

Another tip that someone mentioned was food journaling, which is what I

do, but I know that's not the full answer. There's something going on

that is causing you to overeat on a regular basis. However, you may not

be overeating as much as you think that you are if you actually take a

look at in a food journal. Maybe? Also, you could try the Sabatouge,

Self Sabatouge guided journey which could help you resolve it, maybe?
