R HSV IgM antibody

REACTIVE (low level).Probably non specific. Unlikely to be related to the current clinical problem.

What is HSV and what does this mean?

Thanks for helping.

HSV is Herpes Simple Virus. Most everyone has HSV, (eg most people have had a

cold sore and thats HSV.There are 2 types 1 & 2. Cant remember which way round

but one causes cold sores and the other is genital herpes. I dont know anything

else about the relevance of having low levels of Antibodies but Herpes is a

virus that stays latent in your system and then can reactivate eg if you are run

down, get a cold, even sunlight exposure. Its why when you get that tingle in

your lip they ask you to use acyclovir before the viruses burst out of your

cells. I think if I remember rightly they take over your own nucleotide

processing facilities to produce new virus when the times right.

IgM is Immunoglobulin M (Antibodies) There are 5 Imuunoglobulins, IgA, IgD, IgE,

IgM, IgG. They all have different jobs to do in the body and someone will maybe

remind us what those are as I have forgotten!
