Guest guest
Just had to share these pics. For those of you who don't know, I live in a town where there are wild chickens everywhere. Back in the 40's some teenagers thought it would be a fun joke to turn some loose in town, now there are thousands of them. Anyway, they are now the town mascot and we even have a wild chicken festival every spring. It's kinda crazy. Anyway, I was out running errands the other day and saw this biddy trying to get up off the highway onto a curb. I thought maybe its Mom was in the median it was trying to get up on so I stopped to help it get up the curb and out of the road. Well, there was no momma to be found, or other biddies, or any other chickens around in the area. So, I brought it home and tried to introduce it to the chickens in our yard, thinking one of the hens would take care of it. Turns out, they don't adopt stray biddies. So, now I have a baby chicken in a tote in my bathroom. According to the vet and the feed store lady, I should be able to put it out in the yard in about a month. In the meantime, I get to play Momma Hen and feed and water it. We've had it for about 3 days now, and it is starting to get it's feathers in on the wings. Apparently, since I've touched it and fed it, it's imprinted on me. Everytime I put my hand down in the tote, it jumps up on my hand for me to hold it. It's so cute! Anyway, here is my new little friend. hehe This one is it standing in the tupperware lid I was using for its water until I could get to Wal-Mart for a small enough dish. He's drinking water here. This one is of him standing on my shoulder. For some reason, every time I pick him up, he runs to my shoulder to sit like a parakeet. Guess he's not sure what kind of bird he is?
