Do you know if you child has high oxylate levels? If you do Vit C is

a nightmare, dont trust myself to explain exactly why, so check out

low oxylate group ran by Sue Costen Owens who has done tons of

research into this area. My son went crazy on any vit c

supplementation and he is very high oxylate. Just a thought?

Hi Belinda,

we have the same problem here, ds gets a small amount of C in his multi but that

is all he can cope with. I cant supp it separately in higher amounts as he

develops health problems (which manifest as behavioural problems of course!)

related to raised oxalate levels in his body causing inflammation.

Technically what happens is that the C is metabolised in the gut by bacteria

into oxalate crystals/oxalic acid which is then absorbed across the 'leaky'gut

into body tissues and causes inflammation/pain through the body. A common site

for this to happen is the urinary tract and the child presents as if they have a

UTI.

Belinda how did you discover this problem, if you dont mind me asking?

Liz, does this sound like it may be your little ones problem? I notice you say

he is also quite sensitive to other stuff as well?

hth, Nikki x

Hi Nicky, we worked it out by process of elimination really. I was

working with 's DAN nutritionist to help him have regular bowel

movements, so mag citrate went in, and still no joy so we tried the

vit c powder and worked up the dose. We then experienced 3 weeks of

HELL !!!! didn't sleep, was so hyper and was literally

climbing the walls. I would find him on the top of furniture

everywhere!!! I remember it well because my husband was out of the

country and I was on my own. We were also due to go to America for a

Son-Rise Intensive and I was dreading it wondering how we were going

to get him on a plane!!! He was peeing huge amounts, prodding his

eyes and pulling his willy. That was when the nutritionist said stop

the vit c looks like high oxylate symptoms, it calmed down in about a

week and then from an OAT test there was the proof really high oxalic

acid. We are still fighting the levels of oxalate and yeast but

haven't seen a spell like that since removing the vit c and that was

in July last year.

I am trying to do SCD and LOD and it's driving me potty and is

starving !!!!! I have to be careful with fruit too and so his diet is

sooooooooooo limited. He is food obsessed as a consequence and his

oxylate levels and yeast are still high?

Hey Ho we'll keep on!!!

TST therapy does seem to help and really calms him down.

Also have to share we are week two into horse riding and he loves it,

God there really is nothing like seeing your child happy to make

everything feel good again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Belinda,

sounds a bit like my story, wondering what on earth is going on until the penny

eventually drops! Although it was me that suggested it to our DAN at the time

and he went - oh yeah, could be that, better stop the C then!!!

I am only doing LOD plus a healthy diet, i don't know how on earth you manage to

do SCD at the same time, it must make it very difficult, avoiding those nut

flours they use. It just leaves meat and dairy mainly doesn't it plus LOD veg

as you are also avoiding fruit! Has doing this helped with your little ones

constipation issues?

My ds also loved horse riding, he hasn't done it for a while now, but i can

still remember how happy it made him.
