From above, it would look like a " W " . If you're looking a " W-Sitter " , their right foot is even or behind them when sitting on the floor (for instance), rather than their knee being out (Indian style). My sister has a foster daughter that has CP and her physical therapist said to not let her sit like that at all as it can cause damage to the hips. Just something to consider, or talk to your doctor about. I asked her to sit on her knees and she didn't sit in the "W" like she used to. When she's in cast I catch her sitting this way at times but when she's out of cast she sits indian style. Guest guest Posted August 15, 2011 Report Share Posted August 15, 2011 When Addie was about 5-6 months old, and we were going to physical therapy for her torticollis, her PT notice my wife sitting W-style, and asked us to make sure that Addie didn't do that.We always ask Addie not to sit like that. And she's always proud when she can sit Indian style. But, when I've asked her to sit that way in her cast, she usually tells me that it " hurts to sit like that " . We'll just have to get by until Cast #2 comes off next week, and then we'll see how she does in her brace. But, after she got her cast and they could see her limited mobility on the ground, they agreed that letting her adapt to her cast was more important. She actually never did the "W" sit until she was casted. But, she could barely sit up due to her curve, so we'll take what we can get My daughter Liv (and I) are W sitters too. My 4 year old, who doesn't have scoliosis, but does have CCA, is a " W-sitter " , and my husband, who also has CCA as well as scoliosis says he remembers sitting like that as a child....I on the other hand, have neither and find it uncomfortable to sit that way!!!! Kieran may have a little before he was first cast, but just on one side, but not since. He sits squarely on his legs, as do all of the rest of us. Kieran also has severe infantile scoliosis, 85 degree curve, 90 degree rotation and 110 degree RVAD diagosed at 4 months of age at 68 degrees. So he has generally always had severe scoliosis. However, he is not a skinny phenotype. He has always been a sturdy boy. He is thinner now in the body due to the casting and a fever he once lost weight during that he never gained back, but he is still the same sturdy stocky boy elsewhere. He looks very big and strong! Except for the cast and the extremely crooked back that is. He is not a tall boy and is a little under average for height. It is his stockiness that gives him the big and strong appearance. She is tall (95th %) and very thin (5th %) she also has hip dysplasia and an undiagnosed connective tissure disorder. Her scoliosis is about 40-50 degrees. 16 months old. Not walking..
