We took a class and they said it is actually the same.  If you have your hands and fingers correct it should still work.  I know Dr. S. in Rochester will make a video is a family has a child in a cast he can demonstrate on.  Email me and we can try and get it figured out if you are interested.

I think that a video would be awesome! I have wondered a few times about how I would administer CPR on Avery with her cast. I am certified in CPR, but it will be difficult with her cast. I had forgotten about it and am going to ask the Dr the next time I see him,

Thanks for the reminder :)

Thanks .  That was a great post and I agree wholeheartedly….We hope to have a CPR/Heimlich DVD soon that can be provided to CAST families.  In the meantime, please everyone talk to your ET docs about this and be prepared.

Hi all,  This past weekend, my wife and I took a CPR/First Aid refresher course.  We're " on the list " for adoption through our county.  One thing that is required of us is a current First Aid/CPR card for our foster care license (required in our county to enable us to adopt - we technically foster a child before we adopt it).

I can't stress enough - especially with our

children in casts - how important it is to get yourself certified.  Make sure you talk to a nurse or the doctor after a cast goes on, so you have a clear understanding of how to administer first aid if the situation arises.

This was our first refresher course since got her cast on, and it really hit home how her cast is compared to how we might give her CPR or administer the Heimlich Maneuver to make sure she doesn't choke.

So, please consider searching out a class and taking it!  As was quoted in the class we took, 80% of the people that receive CPR, receive it from someone that they know.

Father to , 3 1/2 years old, San Diego.  57* at first casting, finishing second casting at 18*
