Hi Bess,The first appointment will usually be around 3-4 hours with a thorough examination and also they will look over the Xrays and all information that you have. They will probably have you get another Xray, an MRI and a CT scan to rule out any abnormalities. This will most likely be done on a different day. Good luck on your appointment and congratulations on your new baby!!! SonjaFrom: "bessrattray@..."

Hi Y'all,

I'm bringing my 20-month-old son Davy for the first time to Shriners Montreal in July. (Or August: He's been accepted as a patient but the appointment date's not confirmed yet). He has right thoracic scoliosis with a prominent rib hump; not sure yet of the numbers, because he's only just arrived home a few days ago from Ethiopia (yes, adopted ;-), and he was unable to get reliable X-rays there. Suffice to say, large rib hump on right, but I don't think the Cobb angle is very high, actually. 20-something.

If anyone has experience of what it's like to go to Shriners, I'd be super-grateful for any input, just about what to expect, or advice about what to ask, etc!

Thanks so much for this forum.

Bess

Hi Bess,

I havent heard much about the Shriners in Montreal, but every Shriners Ive

been to is a different world compared to most hospitals. Im sure the

Shrine there is spectacular like most all the rest. In regards to Early

Treatment, I would go to www.infantilescoliosis.org to find " What to ask

your ortho surgeon " I would also bring a copy of the Growth as a

corrective force article by Mehta to share w/ the docs. Ask if they have

an EDF frame....If Davy is weight bearing request a standing film with

arms to the side, not above head to get the most accurate reading. Ask

about the RVAD too.

Good luck and pls keep us posted!

Thanks so much, you guys! I'm heading over to read " What to Ask Your Ortho Surgeon " right now!! I'll keep you posted on our progress. I'm hopeful he'll be a candidate for Mehta casting, but I really have zero idea yet . . warm regards and thanks, Bess>> Hi Bess,> I havent heard much about the Shriners in Montreal, but every Shriners Ive> been to is a different world compared to most hospitals.
