Guest guest
My son who is seven years old just had tethered cord surgery 3 weeks ago. It was supposed to be simple, however he had a very difficult recovery and ended up with a CSF leak. He has a 30 degree curve and 4 syrinx (syringes). I have talked with 3 different ortho docs and 2 say to brace and 1 to cast. Also the doc that said cast uses a fiberglass cast and I'm a little unsure about that too. I'm in west central Indiana and I'm wondering if I should take him to a shriner's hospital. Chicago and St.Louis are closest to me but I hear all the great stories about SLC. Can I just take him there? I'm hoping for some correction from the surgery itself. Just so not sure what to do for my seven year old very active boy. Any thoughts?? Guest guest
If it were me I would cast. I have heard wonderful things about Chicago. Rochester and SLC are great too. I would place calls to all 3 and send over x-rays and see what they say and how they feel about casting older kids. I know some places are more open than others.
