Laurie...I'd be happy to send you a SCOBY for postage, you're close so it

probably won't cost more than $6 depending on size of the SCOBY.

If you're interested contact me off list and we'll work it out...

Also, I did start a SCOBY with GT Dave's, but discarded that line after

awhile as it just wasn't as nice as my others.

Laurie - Did someone already respond to you? I am in Wisconsin. I'll have an

extra scoby in a couple of weeks. I just started, but I am willing to share.

Step 2

Hi Everyone...

You've convinced me that you can change the taste and acidity of the

Kombucha when you brew your own, as opposed to buying a pre-made and

bottled product. So... I'm ready to give it a try.

I looked at the list of folks in my area that have babies, and was

able to contact one of them. She no longer gives them away, but is

making money selling the SCOBY babies for a rather large sum. I need

to start with a much smaller monetary investment than what she is

asking, so.....

Does anyone know of SCOBY babies that I can find locally here in the

great, white nort' of Minnesota? Or .... If it is possible to send

babies through the mail in this below zero weather, does anyone have

one they'd be willing to part with?

One more question... Has anyone had any luck starting a SCOBY from an

already-bottled product?

Thanks much!

Laurie

Laurie,

I've grown my own SCOBY from G.T. Dave's Synergy.

It took about two weeks to form. There are pictures in the photo section.

I enjoyed the process.

Laurie...the taste method is what is generally used to determine when a brew

is " done " . Quite simply it is done when it tastes good to you! :- ) On or

about the seventh day you can start taste testing. The most popular way to

do this is with a straw. I cut the end of the straw on an angle and then

slip the angled end between the side of the brew container and the SCOBY.

Put your finger over the end of the straw after it is down in the brew and

then withdraw the straw whilst keeping your finger over the end. Like using

a pipette in science class.

Remember, your first baby may not be impressive, it is adjusting to changes.

Be sure to not disturb the brew until it is ready to taste test, the newly

forming baby does not at all like to be bothered!!

Just think...in one short week your first brew will be ready to taste! Let

us know how it goes on day 7. :- )

Good luck...
