Hi list

My 2 1/2 year old son has been in a strict Lovaas style ABA program

for the last 6 months. We have recently changed over to a home AVB

program. My son definitely seems happier and we have noticed some

great improvements but...

We have huge problems with killing the reinforcer. As soon as we

find something that motivates him we seem to lose him. He is

constantly self stimming at the table and in the net. (His self stims

consist of verbal stim, finger play, inappropriate laughter and eye

gazing.)

We are getting frustrated b/c he definitely knows the material we are

teaching, but he is simply not attending. Does anyone have any

suggestions on how to better pair yourself w/ the reinforcer? How do

we not kill the reinforcer? How can we decrease the self stims in

order to get some work done?

Any help/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Amy
