Hi Sharon,

We are the same with carrots! Eddie used to love them - used to love the carrot

puree baby foods. He loved the butternut too guess he was craving the luteins?

From memory we were pretty much lutein free for a year (except maybe some meat

fat but not much - Eddie could never tolerate chicken fat so we knew to stay

away from that. I wonder if the SCD chicken broths are a problem for some other

children). We started introducing luteins VERY slowly. At first we just

stopped peeling the courgettes and little things like that. Over months we gave

a little more colour - for example giving him greener lettuce leaves not just

the iceberg type. Mind we still give him the paler ones - we know we have to

keep his overall colours on the low side. So it's a slow crawl I'm afraid but

we're happy that we're going in the right direction. I forgot to mention we

found he was fine with tomatoes and all colours of peppers even the green. I

don't think he could have tolerated these before - but now he does and he can

have celery too. He usually has a salad each day for one of his meals so he's

getting these regularly. For veg we just avoid dark greens and Eddie doesn't

like carrot. But we have started peas in the last few months and he's fine with

these - but we are always careful with amounts and have got used to kind of

adding up all the colours he's had in the day.

>    Your Eddie sounds a lot like my Lukas. We have been on Sara's diet for

about a year and a half. We also had protein restrictions and I did my own

variation of SCD when needed. I am curious. You mentioned Eddie was tolerating

some lutein. I have only just started to experiment to see what he can and can't

tolerate in this area. I am scared of doing this and that is why it has taken me

this long to experiment. I put egg yolk in some Christmas cookies and had major

sensory problems for 3 days. He didn't even eat many of them either. Which is

unusual in itself...he loves his cookies. I recently tried giving him carrots

which he used to love, but he won't go near them with a ten foot pole now. What

are some of the things Eddie was able to tolerate, and how long were you

restricting lutein before you experimented?

caps which is quite a lot). We used to use only 1-3 per week.
