Guest guest
You are always welcome to have a pity party! My first child was born with Albinism and is legally blind and then after struggling for 2 1/2 years with infertility we had Jake and he has scoliosis. I was one of the ones doing great until he was out of his cast for 10 weeks and regressed from 3 degrees to 13 down from 50. His doctor said that his vertebrae are "wedged" and are curved down on one side. Jake is 22 months and is in his 4th cast. On the day of his casting on the ride home he spiked a 104 degree fever and threw up all over himself and my car! Just want you to know we are all in this together and it is ok to feel upset, frustrated, mad, etc. You have been through a lot and it will get better. I had Jake's cast cut off at our local Children's hospital in Seattle by calling our Ortho's nurse and we had 2 months of fun baths and swimming. I don't know if that is an option for you but it sounds like it might be time to get it off. Take care of you and your family- best wishes!!SonjaFrom: Patty Bowen <bowenpatty@...>"infantile scoliosis treatment " <infantile scoliosis treatment >Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 9:38:57 PMSubject: 10th casting canceled So, I haven't been on here for quite some time and I hate to admit it's because I was having a tough time because so many people were getting good news as I continued to get the news I didn't want. It's not that I'm not happy for each and every one of you that has beaten scoli because I am, it's just that I want the same thing for my daughter. What made things even harder was my son having a seizure on Christmas Eve and finding out shortly after that he has epilepsy. I've been very frustrated that I now have 2 kids with health issues after going through so much to get the 3 kids I do have. Sorry for my pity party! Anyway, we just canceled Isabella's 10th casting because she had a cough for a few days and I had a bad feeling that something else was going on. I'm so glad I listened to my gut because she had a high fever on and off all day Wednesday, which would've been casting day. The only problem is now to get squeezed into the docs schedule because we've been in this cast for 14 weeks and it's beginning to stink! I can't wait to get caught up on posts and to read about those who have joined the group since I was last on. Sent from my iPhone

Guest guest
That is one of the main reasons I don't post a lot on here too. is not getting good news and it is so hard to here about the kids that Started after us and are already done with casting, it is depressing for me as his mom. I have always said that it is so hard to be in control of someone else's life. You are not alone through any of this. We are all struggling through this together in a way. Not only do we have our children's medical challenges, but we must also deal w/ everything that comes along w/ that, ~and~ typical everyday challenges. Like tornados, bills, financial hardships, loss of employment, relationships, etc.. It will get easier. It always does. Just when you think you're really loosing it, something brings it all together again. Hang tough. HRH > You are always welcome to have a pity party! Guest guest
Its ok, we all need pity parties now and then! *hugs* I can totally relate to all you express. In our case its hard to hear the good news/numbers because I know we'll never have that. Good numbers in cast, yes, and so we celebrate our own kind of accomplishments. With Grace its also been difficult because just as we seem to get a handle on one medical issue, another one arises. My son also has ADHD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder and chronic constipation. So I also understand how hard it is to deal with more than one kiddo with multiple diagnoses. It seems at our house when it rains it pours! Hugs and please, talk to us any time! Hope Isabella can get her next cast soon! Guest guest
Patty I can totally relate and sometimes it's hard to hear other's positive news when your child/children are struggling. We are always here to listen. I saw on FB about Isabella's fever and having to postpone the cast. You have good mother's intuition and you did the right thing. Hopefully they can get her in asap so she can get a nice, new fresh cast and LOW LOW numbers. I am thinking of you. I am feeling better and it helps to have others to talk to that understand. I do not let the scoliosis run our lives which helps. We were bummed we had to cancel this trip because this was the first time she was not upset about going. She kept telling me she wasn't sick but I just knew.
Guest guest
Sonja,Thanks so much for taking the time to respond... it meant so much to me! I am feeling better and it helps to have others to talk to that understand. I do not let the scoliosis run our lives which helps. We do everything we normally would except for swimming and she has totally accepted it and is just a dream girl that way! We were bummed we had to cancel this trip because this was the first time she was not upset about going. She kept telling me she wasn't sick but I just knew. She's had a fever on and off since Wednesday at lunch. Tomorrow we are supposed to find out when they can fit us in and hopefully she'll be healthy soon! Guest guest
Jane,Thanks... I know your story so I know you understand about having more than one child with medical problems. There is always something happening in our house too! We just hope to have an easier summer than last year when Isabella was in her scoli cast, a full arm cast (broke her arm in 2 places) and stitches above her eye (fell into rocking chair) all at the same time. The only problem is now to get squeezed into the docs schedule becausewe've been in this cast for 14 weeks and it's beginning to stink! I can't wait to get caught up on posts and to read about those who have joined the group since I was last on.Sent from my iPhone
Guest guest
Joan,Thank you! The secretary didn't seem real happy when I called to cancel but I had to do what I felt. When I told her today how bad she was she was saying how good it was that I didn't drive all that way to end up going right back home. Isabella is really looking forward to a new cast for some reason. I bet she changes her mind when we actually end up going!? We are always here to listen. I saw on FB about Isabella's fever and having to postpone the cast. You have good mother's intuition and you did the right thing. Hopefully they can get her in asap so she can get a nice, new fresh cast and LOW LOW numbers. I am thinking of you. Guest guest
Thanks Steph! Last summer the doc let us do a waterproof cast because we knew that she was eventually going to need surgery but we don't know about this summer because of her new curve. No matter what, it will be new and not stink anymore!
