Welcome Caren! Sorry to hear your little has IS. This is a really great support

group w/lots of info. I don't believe there are any Mehta trained doctors in Fl

but I'm sure someone who lives in Florida will direct you where to go. Also, on

the main page under one of the tabs (resources, maybe??) There is a list of

Mehta trained docs throughout the US but I know is working on updating

the list. Have you already spoken w/??

Hi Caren,

There is a doctor (Dr. A, not sure if I can post his name here) who used to be

at Shriners in Philadelphia; he was Mehta-trained and used to do casting at

Shriners. He is now at Miami Children's Hospital. I am not sure if they have a

casting program there or the necessary frame, but it's worth a shot. Hope this

helps.

If its confirmed that the doc has an appropriate 3-D frame and is applying

ET w/ EDF/Mehta casts, please let me know so he can be added to the

growing list.

HEY CAREN! WHAT PART OF FLORIDA? WE LIVE IN SOUTH ALABAMA ON THE GULF COAST. WE ARE ABOUT 10 MINUTES FROM THE FLORIDA LINE. I DO NOT KNOW OF ANY CASTING DRâ€™S. IN THE SOUTH EAST STATES EXCEPT DR. K IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA. WE HAVE BEEN CASTING WITH DR. K SINCE LAST APRIL (2010). THERE MAY BE DR.â€™S CLOSER TO U THAT I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT. DR. K IS AT CHILDRENâ€™S HOSPITAL IN Bâ€™HAM. DR. K IS A MEHTA CASTING DR. I BELIEVE HE WAS TRAINED BY DR. MEHTA! ANYWAY, OUR DAUGHTER SIERRA WAS AROUND 9 MO. WIN I NOTICED HER CURVE. OF COURSE I POINTED OUT TO OUR PED. SHE FREAKED, NO DR.â€™S IN THIS AREA HAD EVER SEEN SCOLIOSIS IN AN INFANT. THEN I FREAKED!!! CAME HOME. GOT ON LINE AND FOUND THIS SITE & HEATHER! THANK GOD!!!!! HEATHER CALLED ME RIGHT AWAY! SHE EXPLAINED TIME WAS OF THE ESSENCE AND TIME WAS ON OUR SIDE! STILL TOTALLY FREAKED OUT! WE FOUND DR. K IN BIRMINGHAM. OUR PED. HAD US SCHEDULED 3 WEEKS FROM THEN TO C A ORTHO. PED. IN MOBILE, ALABAMA. SHE HAD ALREADY TALKED TO THAT DR. & HE HAD NEVER TREATED A INFANT WITH SCOLIOSIS. WE WERE AT DR. Kâ€™S OFFICE THE NEXT WEEK. THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO MEASURE HER CURVE DOWN HERE. DR. K MEASURED HER CURVE AND SIERRA WAS AT 34 DEGREES (TO LEFT). HE DIAGNOSED HER WITH PROGRESSIVE INFANTILE SCOLIOSIS AND WANTED TO CAST THAT WEEK!!!! WE DID BOTH THE BRAIN & SPINE MRI. EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. SO, SIERRA HAS IDIOPATHIC PROGRESSIVE INFANTILE SCOLIOSIS. WE STARTED CASTING 2 DAYS AFTER THE GULF OIL SPILL. WE ARE NOW ON OUR 6TH CAST AND WILL GET 7TH CAST ON JUNE 9TH. WE HAVE HAD GREAT SUCCESS. SIERRA IN MARCH OF 2011 WAS 12 DEGREES OUT OF CAST & DR. K IS HOLDING HER AT 8 DEGREES IN CAST!!! WE CAST EVERY 11-12 WEEKS!!! IT HAS BEEN QUITE A JOURNEY SO FAR. DR. K AND HIS STAFF HAVE BEEN GREAT. IT IS ABOUT A 4 HOUR DRIVE FROM HERE. WE HAVE FAMILY ALL IN THAT AREA SO WE HAVE SOME WHERE TO STAY & SUPPORT! WE ALSO HAVE A ALMOST 4 YR. OLD DAUGHTER NAMED SUMMER. SO THIS HAS AFFECTED OUR WHOLE FAMILY!!! IT HAS BEEN HARD LIVING IN SUCH A WARM HUMID AREA NOT DO ALL THE USUAL THINGS THAT LIVING AT THE BEACH OFFERS U BUT WE HAVE MANAGED AND IT DOABLE!!!! IF U WANT TO GIVE ME A CALL I WOULD LOVE TO HELP!!! I BELIEVE THERE ARE CURRENTLY 3 BABIES IN ALABAMA WITH PROGRESSIVE INFANTILE SCOLIOSIS. HANG IN THERE!
