Damn Connie... what a ride!

I have no idea how I got hcv... snorting coke is a possibility, never shared a needle with anyone and that part of my misguided youth has long been gone.

I am one of the lucky ones for sure. Was dx'd about 1.5 years ago and Bx showed minimal damage. Doc thinks that may mean I contracted fairly recently but you know how that goes. Now only the one shot left of Peg and a week of Riba afterwards. Virus was undetectable at 12 weeks and at 22, I am confident it will stay that way.

The longer I am a part of this group the more I realize how lucky I am. Not just in view of hcv and my condition, but because of how I have gotten to know so many amazing people. Yup... you're one of them.

I had better get back to cleaning... the damn maid didn't show up again leaving me the weekly ritual. I am still coughing up a storm but fever is down. I have to go back to work tomorrow and am hoping for the best there. At least hubby will be home again tomorrow night and can take some of the load off me.

Oh... I thought I was safe from pneumonia, but as part of the doc's 'take care of yourself' speech, I was told there are many kinds of the bug that the vaccine does not cover. I feel like such a dolt sometimes with how much I don't know about illness.

Take care,

Llinda

Itching

& dry skin is a big problem. You just have to keep yourself greased

up all the time. You new people should join out photo group and go look

at the way my hair grew back! It’s pure white everywhere it fell

out, so it’s all white on top & sides and very dark brown

underneath! I was devastated at first & got called Pepe le Pew &

skunk girl & other terms of endearment, but now I get SO many compliments

on it. Hairdressers stop me in public wanting to know if it’s real

because if it’s not, they want the name of the color!

Connie,

I am so proud of you for how far you’ve come. You are a very strong

woman and it’s a good damn thing, cuz you’re gonna need it to raise

that baby!

Here’s

my story: I probably got mine in the late 70’s or early 80’s

from IV drugs, or tattoo or who the hell knows? Who cares? I found

out because I got really sick the summer of ’03 with left side pain &

diarrhea. The gastro thought I probably had a parasite, possibly from

some Cuban rum a friend had brought me. I woke up one day in pretty bad

pain and took myself to the ER after I dropped my son at school. They

found a big kidney stone. I had the lithotripsy to bust it up and after

that was over, I was still in pain. So I went to the gyno. He

couldn’t find anything. So I went back to the gastro & he did surgery

to look for the stone piece that must not have passed. I wasn’t

there so he said he was done with me & sent me back to my regular

doc. When he looked at my blood work from the ER visit, he noticed my

enzymes were elevated and they never had been before. (We’d been

checking every 6 months for 10 or more years because of my cholesterol

meds). So he starts running all kinds of tests and voila! He found the

hep. I got the confirmation on Halloween 03. So he sends me to

another gastro (same practice as the other guy) and he wants to investigate the

pain before we think about the hep. Since I’d already met my

deductible, I said let’s get it done before the end of the year. My

colonoscopy revealed some pre-cancerous polyps. So from Sept-Dec that

year I had 4 surgeries/procedures and what seemed like 100 gallons of blood

drawn.

After

arguing with the insurance company, I started tx the 1st week of Feb

04. It wasn’t too bad at first, but I had weird sides. My

vision changed and I had to postpone my shot for a few days till I could get

the go ahead from the ophthalmologist. Ended up with a new pair of glasses.

I also had this really peculiar swelling in my legs, with pitting edema. That

ended up being this freaky thing called erythema nodosum I had to see the

dermatologist for. Turn out that was probably from my thyroid going wacko

from tx, because it got better when we tripled my synthroid dose. The

fatigue was really bad and I rarely did anything after work or on the weekends

except lay around the house. But by golly, I made it to work & worked

overtime most of that whole year.

Sometimes

I wasn’t sure I’d survive it, but I did and it was all worth it

because I’m undetectable so far! And I intend to stay that way!
