Guest guest
Is there a tummy cut out on her brace like there was with the cast? If so, my next question would be, how high is the hole? Does her tummy have room to protrude when it gets full? Jane From: and Leah Jeffries <scottandleah@...>infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Fri, April 22, 2011 11:50:13 AMSubject: reflux with brace? Hello,My daughter Joy, almost 3, is now in a brace. She seems to be having some "reflux" type symptoms. She burps more often and seems to have something come up but just swallows it and of course this upsets her. She also just doesn't seem to want to eat much and she is getting so skinny (she has always been somewhat underweight). She had reflux in the past as an infant but has not had any problems until lately. Just wondering if the pressure maybe from the brace causes these issues. I am going to make an appt. with her GI doctor. Thanks for any advice.-- Leah Jeffries
Guest guest
There is a hole in the side for one side of the ribcage to protrude. Then, in the back there is a gap of course where it doesn't quite come together. There isn't a hole for the tummy in the brace. Here is a pic. Not sure if you can see it or not. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Leah,I agree w/ Jane about the brace. Its challenging to properly fit a growing child in brace, effectively. Back in the day (over 10 yrs ago) the braces didn’t have the super effective & logical widely trimmed, mushroom shaped window in front, nor a hole in back and geez did my daughter suffer through tight brace after tight brace. A proper window in front is crucial for most children in comfort after eating, rib support, etc….Dr. Mehta taught us about the importance of the windows and it’s fabulous to see that the ET trained docs are utilizing what they learned from the pioneer of ET and applying this to braces. Dr. Mehta called her brace a bi-valve brace. Coles brace looks like a combo TLSO/bi valve and that’s what most braces coming out of SLC look like, as well. Im sure you’ve tried loosening the brace straps or removing it for eating? Please keep us posted.HRH From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of and Leah JeffriesSent: Friday, April 22, 2011 12:50 PMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: reflux with brace?
