Guest guest
Hello everyone, Yesterday Shane got his 2nd cast. It is so different that the 1st cast. He has a much longer (hourglass shaped) " kissy hole " in front. He also now has a hole in the back. I have to say, it is much tighter than the last cast (remember he was casted in NY the 1st time and yesterday he was done at Shriner's). I'm not crazy about it because the holes are very rough as well as around the top, by the armpits and down around the bottom. The nurses were unable to put the moleskin around it because it was too tight for them and they couldn't get in there. I can't even get the maxi's under the front or back like I did the last time. Now for the bad news. I was so devastated when Dr. C told me the Shane's out of cast xray that he took yesterday was the same measurements as his 1st scoliosis xray that was done in October when he was first diagnosed. I feel like I put Shane through hell for nothing. I let Dr. C put on cast #2, but if there is no change come July when it comes off, I don't know if I'll continue. I knew that Shane wasn't going to be a zero or have much of a change. But damn, I was hoping for something. I got absolutely nothing. NO CHANGE. For Heidi and everyone else that casting has helped, you are so lucky. I am so envious of you guys. Now, I am more determined (as if I wasn't already) to raise money for ISOP so that they can find other ways to cure the " older kids " (3 years and up). Remember, Shane was 3 years and 4 months when he had his 1st cast applied. Now he's 3 years and 7 months.
