Guest guest
Hello everyone, Shane had his first cast removal yesterday at Shriners Philadelphia. I have to say, it was very traumatic for both him and I. The more he would scream for them to stop, the more I would cry. I can't believe that I have to take him back on Friday (4/8) to have cast #2 put on and go through it again. It seemed that once they cut the cast, they would pull and tug on it to get it off. The more they pulled and tugged, the more he screamed for them to stop. Could it be that the pulling and tugging was hurting him? Could it be the pressure that was hurting him? Also, I was disgusted to see all of the dead skin that I now have to try and get off. He's already had 2 baths. The 3rd bath is coming in about an hour. I will give him 3 baths a day until I have to leave on Friday to take him. Anyway, when I gave him his 1st bath, I noticed that his hips look funky. What I mean is there is a pointy bone sticking out of each side of his hips. That freaks me out because that wasn't there prior to getting casted. After the 2nd bath, the pointy bones are still there. Is this something that I should be concerned with? Will it go away? Also, he screams when I dry him off (down by the waist and hips). I can't seem to work the dead skin off of him. I am putting 's Baby Lotion on him to help soften it up in the hopes that it will come off easier. Does anybody have any ideas for me? The hips are really, really bothering me and I don't want him recasted if I can't get that dead skin off of him. But, I know that they told me that because of his age (he's 3 1/2) that he can't be out of a cast for more than the 4 days that he will be out of it. On a better note, it was so great to hold him and rub his back last night while he was sleeping. I let him sleep next to me so that I could hold him all night. It really was a great feeling. The little things that mean so much and you take for granted.
