Guest guest
That is so truly wonderful!! What a journey, and so happy that the past is in the past so far as the severity goes. Congratulations on Bex's amazing recovery. 10.6 is no scoliosis at all by some measures!! And it couldn't have come at a better time. I hope he's all grins -- I'm sure his parents are! Guest guest
Patrice,I love the word you used- "transparent"- because for sure I am not doing any of this perfectly or with any great deal of grace- ha! : ) My only hope is that it helps to encourage other families to - assuming the casts are properly applied- go the distance, because even though it's hard, it is so worth it.We are now in the potential "cure zone"- wow. Guest guest
We just got home back to L.A. and it is so weird...2 years and 2 months of casts and this is now gonna be the last one...I just want to mention that we had NO correction for over a year of casting- that was a long haul in the middle of our process- but then his spine just opened up. I hope that gives hope to other parents to go the distance with a solid block of casts without long breaks, we have gotten almost 10 degrees of correction in the last 2 casts. No brace breaks because he started at such a high degree.I almost can't believe it- but this time I can celebrate it. Guest guest
Heidi, That is wonderful news! Thanks for the reminder of the lag in progress. Last cast! Guest guest
Thanks for sharing that Heidi. Min always says to keep going….I have seen so many kiddos plateau for a year or more, then just when the consensus is that there will be no more correction….THERE IS!   If the casts are constant (solid block) the spine, tissues & muscles are being retrained continually and eventually all work together…… and the body does what it wants/needs to heal itself. I think this would be a nice addition to Bex’s update, when you’re ready.(hugs)HRH From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of NIck GutheSent: Tuesday, April 05, 2011 5:28 PMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: 10.6 for Bexon!!! Guest guest
Definitely, I'll get to updating soon! Slow and steady wins the race...but zero degrees does not have to be the goal, just quality of life. Guest guest
So happy that this is your son's last cast!!! I just have a question. I am still relatively new at this casting thing. My daughter has only been in casts since last November. She is in her 3rd cast now. I thought that a chld had to be casted until they reached 0 or at least 5 and under in degrees? I am confused. You can quit csating at 10 degrees? My daughter is currently at 20 degrees and her doctor is telling us that she will never reach 0. But, he says that she might possibly get down to close to 10 degrees. How long will Bexon have to wear his brace? And will it ever only be at night time that he wears it? Sorry for so many questions. I am just wondering and trying to look ahead to my daughter's future to try and figure out if she will ever be down low enough to only wear it at night. Thanks! - , mom of Abby (20 Months old) 48* down to 20* in 3rd cast > > Bex got down to 10.6 " in cast " today in cast #10- over 2 years of casting and > worth every singe minute of it!!! > > We're over the moon (he was 14.6 three months ago).
