Guest guest
I found my old link to the USS Alabama website tonight. This is a WWII battleship that is now part of an historic park in Mobile, Alabama. The park was set up and still is run solely by private donations and visitor's fee's. Some of the first to raise money for it were school children all over the state. Here is a link to the site that has pictures of the damage left by Hurricane Katrina. Something you can't really see though. The ship's hull is not free floating but rather is sunk into mud inside the a seawall. The water evidently got deep enough to float it and set it back down at a noticeable list to port. The aircraft building also took a hit. There are no pictures of the USS Drum, their WWII submarine which was on land braced by concrete blocks, so I guess it must have come through alright. The park is open again so next time I am down there, if Amtrak is ever running again that way, I'll have to pay them a visit. Here's the link. http://www.ussalabama.com/html/photos/index.php
