Guest guest
Connie, Thank you for posting with us. It is correct that zetia, or any other cholesterol lowering drug WILL NOT PREVENT SOMEONE FROM DEVELOPING HEART DISEASE. Those drugs have never been shown to prevent heart disease. Your cholesterol of 208 is perfectly normal and your LDL is perfectly normal. The lab values for these have been lowered to increase market share and boost sales of the drugs. You do not have high cholesterol. Muscle pain and weakness is the most common complaint from cholesterol lowering drugs. Guest guest
Thanks for your replies phine and Bobby. I forgot to mention in the first message on this topic, I have been referred to 3 orthopedists and a physiatrist for all this pain and trouble with my elbows and arms. I have had 3 mri's on my right elbow and had 3 cortisone shots there. One ortho told me he had trouble taking Zocor causing muscle pain so he stopped and now he was taking Vytorin. I wonder how he felt after the news about Vytorin last spring. He was probably 10 years younger than I am. And, the podiatrist I see to check my feet, (also because of me being diabetic) this doc said he had trouble with muscle pain while taking Zocor and he just stops taking it for a few weeks, then starts taking it again. Also, had 4 rounds of P/T, which always made things worse. I read on the net somewhere that taking statins makes you exercise intolerant. Just walking about 6 blocks made the top of my thighs sore for weeks. Having diabetes, I am supposed to exercise regularly to help control my blood sugar levels. I wonder if most of these docs don't get labs done regularly, cause many probably have TC levels near 200, especially if they are middle- ged males. Then they could see how we feel taking this crap. Guest guest
Connie, Cholesterol is not a disease... we are born with cholesterol in our bodies. We are not born with statins or drugs from the group known as bile acid sequestrants, to which Zetia (ezetimibe) belongs, sloshing around in our bodies. On January 14th, 2008, the New York Times reported that Zetia was of no value to patients. The drug was supposed to reduce the accretion of the plaques (atherosclerosis) thought to be responsible for cardiac events. If anything, the findings of the study detected an increase in the plaques in the patients taking the drug. Links to articles in the New York Times and the Washington Post:http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/14/business/14cnd-drug.html?emhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/14/AR2008011401639.htmlThe following link provides information about Zetia:http://www.drugs.com/zetia.htmlWomen have never been shown to derive ANY benefit from ANY statin therapy and it follows that the benefits to lowering cholesterol levels (in women) are of highly dubious value. In which case, lowering cholesterol levels for women by using Zetia must be similarly useless. It ought to be crystal clear from this news, that your doctor is both dangerously ignorant and criminally negligent. Why do pregnant women have a highly elevated cholesterol level? Why is our brain responsible for utilising about 50% of the body's cholesterol. Why do we feel bad when we lower our cholesterol? Why does our dietary intake of fats and cholesterol not have an effect on the adjustment of our internal cholesterol levels? What happens to the products (heme a, dolichols, ubiquinone/CoQ10 and prenylated proteins) which are also synthesised in mevalonate metabolic pathway along with cholesterol, when we inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol at the beginning of that pathway?Unless your own medical practitioner is both prepared to talk to you about these issues and can give you straight answers to those questions, you are likely to be dealing with a charlatan and a quack... a snake-oil salesman, a criminally negligent medical practitioner... nothing more.We do not die because we have insufficient statins or bile acid sequestrants in our bodies. We die when our cells are programmed to die. You will not extend your life by a single second, beyond the genetically programmed time that your cells start to die. You will very likely shorten that time by messing with your internal bio-chemistry.The take home message is both sad and liberating. We will all die and the medical profession cannot prevent that event. We will survive for the maximum period of time (accidents notwithstanding) if we stop worrying obsessively about the latest health fad from rather too wealthy dolts who claim to be acting in our best interest. If it seems to good to be true, it usually is. Drug companies don't care if you live or you die. They only want your money while you are alive and there will be other customers to replace you, after they have killed you.Enjoy your life, have fun, keep our friends and family close to you, be gentle with yourself and above all... avoid having anything to do with the medical profession and drug companies. Avoid stress and you will most likely live a long and happy life. My cholesterol level is 8.7 and I have never felt better. Guest guest
Jeff, Your cholesterol level is 8.7? Mine is 224 and the dr. is "ok" with that level. What happens to the products (heme a, dolichols, ubiquinone/CoQ10 and prenylated proteins) which are also synthesised in mevalonate metabolic pathway along with cholesterol, when we inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol at the beginning of that pathway? Unless your own medical practitioner is both prepared to talk to you about these issues and can give you straight answers to those questions, you are likely to be dealing with a charlatan and a quack... a snake-oil salesman, a criminally negligent medical practitioner... nothing more. We do not die because we have insufficient statins or bile acid sequestrants in our bodies. We die when our cells are programmed to die. You will not extend your life by a single second, beyond the genetically programmed time that your cells start to die. You will very likely shorten that time by messing with your internal bio-chemistry. The take home message is both sad and liberating. They only want your money while you are alive and there will be other customers to replace you, after they have killed you. Enjoy your life, have fun, keep our friends and family close to you, be gentle with yourself and above all... avoid having anything to do with the medical profession and drug companies. Avoid stress and you will most likely live a long and happy life. My cholesterol level is 8.7 and I have never felt better. I wonder if most of these docs don't get labs done regularly, cause many probably have TC levels near 200, especially if they are middle-ged males. Then they could see how we feel taking this crap.Connie> >> > Hello all, Have any of you developed muscle pain while taking > > Zetia? > > > > I was put on Zetia approximately 6 months ago. Guest guest
Connie, a note about LDL cholesterol, the one marketeers call " bad cholesterol " LDL is a protein that carries cholesterol from your liver to all the tissues in your body. LDL is the bus that picks up cholesterol and takes it from your liver to its job everyday. Once on the job site, cholesterol goes to work making repairs, giving cells structural integrity. Cholesterol is more than a carpenter building strong cell walls, its also an electrician maintaining your body's nervous system. But thats not all. Cholesterol is in the manufacturing business. It makes all your steroid hormones. Without cholesterol, there would be no testosterone. Testosterone gets converted into estradiol. Estradiol gives women their beautiful curves. So guys reading this need to thank cholesterol whenever they see a very pretty lady. Another task of cholesterol is to make Vitamin D. The sun shines on 7-dehyrdocholesterol in the skin making Vitamin D. But wait. There is more to cholesterol's resume'. This stuff forms the bile acids we need for digestion. I like to get all the benefit from my food I can. Its nice to know that cholesterol is there to see i get what I need to digest my food. Last but not least, Cholesterol is vital to the brain. The brain is the single organ that depends most on cholesterol to function properly. ( my friends think I am short on cholesterol ) Some people say that LDL cholesterol is a villain and needs to be gotten rid of. But they all have something to sell. Statin drugs. They never talk about cholesterol's role in human biology. Never. But I tell you the truth. If we get rid of LDL, and push it low enough, we are certain to get the a result. Its called a corps. A cadaver. Because the human body cannot live without LDL cholesterol. > > > > > > Hello all, Have any of you developed muscle pain while taking > > > Zetia? > > > > > > I was put on Zetia approximately 6 months ago. Guest guest
Couldn't have said it better myself. I want to increase my levels as they dropped to a dangerous 4.1 ( about 125)At present am eating lots of cheese, cream, eggs, butter and oily fish. What else should I have to get my levels back up (7 months post-statins) I am open to any yummy suggestions as I need to get my memory/cognitive skills back. Guest guest
Hi .We are just using different units of measurement. My 8.7 mmol/l (millimoles per litre) equates to 336.42 gm/dl (grams per decilitre)Your own 224 gm/dl equates to 5.79 mmol/l. FWIW, in both cases, the UK would prefer to initiate statin treatment at these levels. ))The difference in the units of measurement is that 'millimoles per litre' is a standard unit known as an SI unit (used globally) as recommended by Le Système International d'Unités. The measurement in 'grams per decilitre' was a once common unit of measurement that refuses to die and it remains common in the USA. A fundamental difference between these units of measurement is that grams per decilitre measures the weight of the substance in the blood and millimoles per litre measures the concentration of the substance in the blood. The measurement of substance concentration is generally held to provide better accuracy than measuring the weight of the substance in the blood.Kind regards,JeffOn 10 Jan 2009, at 17:49, wrote:Jeff, Your cholesterol level is 8.7? Guest guest
Thank you Jeff, That's good info. My dr. respects my wishes about statins in general and Lipitor in particular. Although, right now I'm compromising myself by taking 1/2 10 mg tablet a day. Last year I had a blocked chest artery and next week I'm getting two bi-lateral leg arteries cleared out. Soooooooo, for now, I'm sticking with the small dose, but even with the small dose, I don't feel good about it and have symptoms directly related to the Lipitor. Re: Re: muscle pain and Zetia Connie, Cholesterol is not a disease... we are born with cholesterol in our bodies. Links to articles in the New York Times and the Washington Post: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/14/business/14cnd-drug.html?em http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/14/AR2008011401639.html The following link provides information about Zetia: http://www.drugs.com/zetia.html Women have never been shown to derive ANY benefit from ANY statin therapy and it follows that the benefits to lowering cholesterol levels (in women) are of highly dubious value. Guest guest
BOBBY AND PINKY, I'M SORRY I ALARMED YOU. I KNOW THE STRAPS WERE NOT DOWN YESTERDAY MORNING. I WOULD HAVE NOTICED IT. I BELIEVE YOU WOULD HAVE TOO WHEN YOU CAME. BUT I JUST LOOKED CLOSELY AT THE CHAIR AND IT APPEARS THE STRAPS ARE DEFINITELY ROTTING AND IT WOULDN'T TAKE MUCH TO BREAK THEM...IF ONLY FOR SOMEONE TO JUST SIT DOWN ON IT. THOSE HALF WAY UP THE BACK MIGHT HAVE BROKEN ON THEIR OWN, OR WITH A LITTLE PRESSURE. SO PLEASE DO NOT CALL MIKE. http://geocities.com/flyinresorts/blog.html > From: flyinresorts <flyinresorts@...> > Subject: Re: muscle pain and Zetia > Lipitor > Date: Sunday, January 11, 2009, 9:20 AM > Here is a link to a cholesterol and trig converter on the > net to > change from USA values to the rest of the world.
Guest guest
Hello all, I just wanted to tell everyone here that I just got back from my checkup and my lipid panel was as follows: Triglycerides are now down to 112, TC down to 193, HD up to 52, and LDL down to 119. These numbers are in the last 4 months since I stopped the Zetia in October, due to neck and back pain. Actually, these are better than when I took the Zetia from July to October. My gp said my numbers are good, and then I told him that I stopped the Zetia. I'm glad he's happy with the numbers cause I'm only taking Flax Seed Oil now and that's only if I remember to take it.
