Guest guest
We had a GREAT allergist appt today...now MOST people would not think it was GREAT but I know all of you will understand what I mean when I say it's GREAT....it's GREAT because I got answers, gained understanding and perspective, and am able to make sense now of so much that has gone on over the past 12 months...so for me, it is GREAT... We had him SPT today to 20 foods and 8 environmentals. He was negative to all environmentals which is GREAT (I was worried about dog and mold mostly). He tested + to WHEAT, MILK and SQUASH. This in addition to the " severe " positives to corn, lamb and egg on patch tests in Cincy (and a handful of " mild " class 1 + at cincy) While I wish he wasn't allergic to anything the reality is that he IS and for us to be able to get answers and move forward is FABULOUS! He is allergic to 4 of the hardest (in my opinion) things to avoid: milk, egg, wheat and corn....BUT compared to the prognosis of never eating again, this is just AWESOME news. I feel more hopeful then I have in his entire life. He is doing SO well on Elecare and really well with rice. The allergist and I are beginning to believe he may have just had the " full bucket " overflowing in his infancy. The wheat was a shock to me, but that's about it: no surprises on milk or squash. Allergist also ordered blood which we had drawn today, for specific titers to certain vaccines, all his immune levels, CBC, lead test (which ped had ordered), and RAST to the top 8, corn, squash, and lamb. I am very interested to get these back. She said *NO* flu shot for Hunter so the rest of us will all get it in order to try to protect him since he can't get it. We see allergist again 11/23, at which time, we are also having my older son re-tested for top 8 foods (He is due to milk challenge soon and we have never done nuts or peanuts testing, we just avoid on principle). The plan for Hunter is to introduce foods at 3 week intervals, so its rice only for another week, then sweet potato, then carrot, then apple, then peach. We are discontinuing Zyrtec as I don't believe in overmedicating and if he doesn't have environmental allergen he should need the Zyrtec. We are keeping the Singulair as he had 2 bad breathing episodes last winter and we worry about the possibilities of asthma (I have it and so does my older son). I am VERY VERY hopeful. Thank you all for your enormous support.
