Connie, Red Yeast Rice is a statin.Tracking deaths from heart disease over the past 40 years, statins have done nothing to enhance the decline in deaths. The general public is unaware of this. But its a fact. The decline rate pre and post statins remained unchanged.I view statins as 100% worthless in the battle against heart disease. The "benefit" exists only in the minds of consumers. In this news story, the leading cause of death is still stated as heart disease. The sentence that states this fact is 3/4 down the page, the third point highlighted with a bullet.

So, see how well all the statins prescribed in the last 20 or so years have helped to curb heart disease? (NOT)

And to top things off, at my diabetes checkup last week, my gp wants my LDL to be under 100. He says 114 is too high for a diabetic person. He wants me to start another statin drug, even though he is the doctor who diagnosed me with myositis about 5 years ago. I told him I can't go through all the muscle and tendon pain, and brain fog that I did back them. He suggested Red Yeast Rice, and I bought some, but didn't take it yet. I bought some Cholest-Off too, thinking plant sterols are better than the natural form of statins in RYR.

I spoke with Barbara on the phone and she said I seem to be someone who is more suseptable to statins and shouldn't even try RYR.

Anyone have any experiences to share with RYR or Cholest-Off?

  • 2 weeks later...

I tried Cholest-Off and had serious lower digestive issues; maybe

coincidental?

Remember--there is always a " leading cause of death " , and heart failure

is the default cause listed if there is no other obvious diagnosis.

It's not as if " if people don't die of heart disease, some folks won't

die at all " .

BTW, there is a new book out kind of on this subject: if there was a

machine that told how someone would die (not when, and no details) how

would it affect people, and society? It's a science-fiction anthology

that hit #1 on Amazon.com on it's first day. (my #2 son, Malki,

is one of the editors and publisher, and one of the stories has his dad

as the main character, although the story itself is fictional). Hope

nobody minds the plug!
