This is starting to look like desperation on the part of Big Pharma. They can't get enough people on statins? "Hey, let's tell 'em it prevents/cures pneumonia!" Only problem is that this study proved statins don't do any more for pneumonia than they do for heart disease. But they tried. See Forbes story:http://tinyurl.com/nwusruIt quotes one doctor re. the study: "As a doctor, I'm a fan of statins for what they've been proven to do: lowering cholesterol and risk of heart disease and stroke in people who've had either disease or are at risk for them," Dublin said. "But now we and some others have found that statins may have gotten some unearned credit for health benefits that they don't actually have, including preventing pneumonia." Makes you wonder what other unearned credif for what health benefits he has in mind. It sounds as if he's still a bit reluctant to give up on the heart disease myth though.

When I was a young lad, my Father would say " If something sounds too good to be

true, it generaly is. " Thats true, and the claims on statins from the medical

comunity is no exception.

So far, statins have been hailed as wonder drugs capable of saving millions from

heart disease and death. In addition claims of statins offering better cognitive

function for alzheimers patients, increasing vitamin D, lower cancer rates, and

now Pnemonia.

Sounds alot like the snake oil salesman in his horse drawn circus wagon doesn't

it?... Well it is.

I noticed that the headline misleading--if you look at the actual

study, they found that it INCREASED the risk of pneumonia!
