Guest guest
Pamela, you can also get damage similar to statin damage from a certain class of antibiotics. They are called fluoroquinolones. They can cause tendon ruptures and nerve problems. Examples of these antibiotics are Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox, etc. Some of the older ones have been removed from the market. You should do a web search on the side effects of fluoroquinolones or search for Levaquin, as it is the one with the most adverse effects reports. There are other adverse effects than these, like phycosis and mental disturbances and sleep problems, but I only had the tendon problems. I had statin damaged muscles and tendons first and when I started feeling better, I was affected by taking Levaquin. My problems were tendonitis around my elbows, shoulders and left knee cap, and plantar fasciitis, which is inflammation of the tendons on the bottom of the feet. Your feet hurt when you first put them on the floor when getting out of bed in the morning. I did not do any abnormal activities to injure all these areas at the same time. Supposedly these antibiotics have a black box warning for tendon ruptures but patients never see a " black box " but the risk is listed in the pharmacy pamphet under " Warnings. " I showed this warning, underlined, to my doc after he said " Levaquin doesn't do that, " and I said it is right here in print. Guest guest
Pamela, I forgot to mention, there is a group on for people with fluoroquinolone damage. It is called Fqtoxicity. There are many damaged members there who were perfectly normal, some very athletic who now can barely walk. Unfortunately, some of the damage is more permanent, even when only one course of the antibiotic has been taken.
