Guest guest
It has been very windy here today. Starting late last night, the wind began blowing very strongly. An advisory said that gusts could reach 50 miles per hour and I think some did. The wind was so powerful at times, blowing through the trees it sounded like a freight train on the rails, which are about 200 yards from here. It was also so strong at times that my solid masonry house began to creak. The wind has kept up all day today, though not quite as fiercely, but only just. It was blowing so strong that it ripped the storm door out of my hand and I thought it would break the hinges when it reached its limit. Few birds were flying today. Those that did darted to the feeder between gusts and turned to face them and hung on for dear life when they came again. The streets are littered with sticks and small limbs, but I didn't bother to go out and do a cleanup. With this wind the streets would just be blocked up again in a short while. I'll probably do a little picking up tomorrow, if the wind has died down. There was one funny thing. The neighbor's cat has been hunting the moles that are attracting to the castings from the bird feeder. He will sit near the feeder and watch for the mole to push up from under the leaves and try to catch it. Today he was out there and just having a really hard time. The wind was flapping up leaves all around the yard in a way that looked just like the mole poking around. Poor cat didn't know what to do but sit there, his head snapping this way and that. Too many tempting targets for kitty. Eventually he gave up and went on his patrol of the yard and then went home.
Guest guest
Cute! I wish I had moles too. I've never seen one IRL. You don't happen to have caught one on cam? Inger Windy day.
