I too am in my 50's; 57 to be exact. I nearly cried when I read your story, Pamela. It is so similar to mine that I want all readers to go to my WebMd comment made on November 9th or 10th of 2008. I put it under anonymous as I was still afraid of consequences. I don't care any longer. I have no life due to the drug Vytorin. I am just a shell. The doctor's are clueless unless they have it happen to them or to a loved one. Four of my family members are "allergic" to it. That is the term they use. I went to my ADD/HD doctor to try my meds again after a 6 year hiatis. No problems until taking statins even though I had no other drugs (not even ADD/HD for 6 years) in my system. And for 8 months (the first 3 months I added the Vytorin) no other drugs than my thyroid med called

Levothyroxin. My brain hardly functions since the statins. You will read about it in my lengthy comment. You will know it is me because I mention Tulsa and our wonderful RiverParks, which actually saved my life. I can walk forward fine, but bending at all is extremely painful. My ADD/HD doctor is actually a psychiatrist, and he said that his relative couldn't even get out of bed. That was me. My husband would have to pull me out of bed in the morning. I finally felt vindicated to hear that a doctor admits. There has to be something out there that can restore the cholestrol production to the brain. Physical therapy with a personal trainer helped, but did not cure. I still have lousy balance due to the foot muscle problems and can't do anything around the house that takes bending due to the loss of hip flexor muscles,

glut strength loss and I wonder if the drug damages the connective tissue. I will not let this ruin my life. I have such back pain, due to the loss of core strength, which of course is due to the loss of using my hips. It does something to your metabolism as well. I gained over 60 lbs within six weeks of going off the drug. I craved milk like a drug addict craves cocaine or meth. I tried walking 6 miles a day and working with personal trainers. I am now going to have liposuction to get rid of the stomach I was left with. I was a very active, physical, person. The only way we are going to know the real statisics is to have EVERY PERSON WHO INJESTS THE DRUG, report the side effects at set periodic intervals. Required! And they want this to be given to children. I will go to Congress next March when I normally go meet with Senators and Representatives. I will fight this.

What is so crazy is that one of my friends was on the FDA approval board, and she was not even in the medical field. She just had Diabetes. So what does that tell you about the approval process for drugs? I could be on that board because I studied Geology!

Also, people with Thyroid Disease should not take Statins. And certain tests should be required prior to prescribing to measure changes. Like the CK test. None were done on me.

Dr. Duane Graveline's books are great too. There is a Dr. Cate (or Kate) out there who I found accidentally, that made a visual that was tremendous. If I can find it during this remodel of my home I will pass it on.

Another form of relief has been swimming. I met a Marine who's leg was shattered during Vietnam and he swims everyday without fail. Still uses crutches, but what an inspiration. If he can do it we can do it. I am thinking about putting in one of those endless current pools. I don't have that kind of money, but living like this is hell. I will find a way.

Please go to WebMD, type in Statins and Muscle Pain. Page down past the doctor's article, to November comments. I would print all the pages and read every comment, because it sounds like they are going to start censoring. There are some very interesting comments. It will make you feel better because you are not alone in your suffering. And tell every friend you know not to even think about injesting this type of drug (Statins) until they read everything they can get their hands on. To me it was like taking Cyanide.

What the drug companies have on their side is that we are all too tired from the side effects to actively pursue making them find a cure to the problem they created. Plus, I still appreciate all of the life saving drugs they have created, so I hesitate to take action other than warn people! But if I don't recover fully, I reserve the right to change my mind!

Also, I want an autopsy on my body specifically targeting the Statin Damage in the event of my death. I have already designated donating my organs, but do not know how to get this specific request done. Does anyone out there know how to do this legally in the USA? I had my heart checked for muscle damage and all turned out clear, but I doubt I will ever be the energetic "dynamo" I used to be. What I connected with on Pamela's post was the loss of memory. I had times when I could not remember my husband's name and lost the feeling of love and concern for other's. I lost Facial Recognition as well. Can anyone relate?

The awful thing is that the neurological damage just doesn't seem to repair.

Stopping Statins & taking COQ10 have halted further damage - but my cognitive

problems just won't go away.Pamela
